  25. Because this was the name bestowed on it by patriarchal anthropologists
  26. working in a patriarchal system.  It has historically been used, and
  27. while I agree that it is a misnomer, it is useful for recognition.  The
  28. preferred word seems to be "matristic."

  35. Because women have been so shit on for so long and done nothing about
  36. it through swallowing all the drek about our victimized powerlessness
  37. that it is necessary to weigh down a little harder on our side.  Telling
  38. people who've grown up in a patriarchal society to celebrate all values
  39. won't work; their minds are still locked in.  You have to smack them
  40. over the head with alternative possiblities.  You have two millenia's
  41. worth of garbage to haul out -- it must be EXPLICITLY STATED that women
  42. have been devalued and that women and the values that have been
  43. associated with them must be paid more attention.

  45. No one in history has
  46. said that any disembodied characteristic is evil; they have
  47. systematically called women evil and then attributed all the things they
  48. disliked TO us.  The characteristics have been devalued and are not
  49. exclusively feminine (you who have heard me rant about enforced
  50. bipolarity know how I feel about that) but HAVE BECOME SO through being
  51. arbitrarily linked with US, who ARE evil.  It is women themselves who
  52. have been devalued and denigrated, and everything else so only be
  53. association.  If you doubt this read the Malleus Maleficarum as the
  54. most egregious example.
