- Hi,
-
- Being new to lucid emacs, I am not sure these questions have been
- asked before. I am running on a sun4, sunos-4.1.1 using x11r5 patch
- level 16 and the tvtwm manager.
-
- 1) When I move from screen A to screen B where screen A is on top of
- screen B, screen B raises but the hidden contents of screen B are not
- immediately displayed, there is a few second delay. Is this delay
- normal? Is there a way to get the screen to be refreshed immediately
- upon being raised (I have told tvtwm to raise the window when the
- cursor moves into it and I have also set auto-raise-screen)
-
- 2) I have a set of pull down windows defined for tvtwm. One of the
- windows has a set of tools that I call. If I start up X using xinit,
- everything works fine when I invoke lucid emacs. However, if I use
- xdm, I cannot get lucid emacs to start. The only what I could get it
- to start was to have xterm start which then executed lucid emacs. The
- command lines from .tvtwmrc file are
-
- "lucid" !"lemacs &" // doesn't work with xdm
- "lucid" !"xterm -iconic -e lemacs &" // works with xdm
-
- It appears to me that lucid emacs is attempting to access a terminal
- upon startup, maybe via an ioctl.
-
- This is the only tool that demonstrates this behavior. Emacs and Epoch
- both work fine under xdm.
-
-
- 3) When I hold down the cnt-n key, lucid appears to wait before moving
- the cursor. The cursor position isn't updated until I release the key.
- I don't see this behavior with either epcoh or emacs. It appears that
- lucid emacs is buffering the input. Is there a way to disable this
- feature. This doesn't happen all of the time but frequently enough
- that it is annoying.
-
-
- 4) One of the things I liked about epoch was the separate minibuffer.
- It was nice having the minibuffer as wide as my terminal screen
- without having to have individual screens as wide as the terminal
- screen. Is this possible with lucid emacs.
-
-
- Well, those are the questions for now. I must say that some of the
- features in lucid emacs are very nice. As I explore, I am sure that I
- will continue to find more features that I will learn that I can't
- live without. Nice job!
