  13.     Well, since our local ircserver is toast, I am going to ask
  14.     a very simple, probably oft-repeated question which didn;t
  15.     seem to be addressed in the faq.

  17.     For those of us who do not have IRC access, but _do_ have
  18.     telnet access, are there any systems I can telnet to that
  19.     offer public access to the irc?

  21.     Goonsquad.bbs.spies.com is gone, and I never used it anyway
  22.     (our local server only went out about two weeks ago) and
  23.     bradenville.andrew.cmu.edu really bites.  I'm not knocking it,
  24.     at least it is there, but it's a real pain to use.  (I don;t 
  25.     so much miss the / commands [although I do] so much as not having
  26.     to type /msg #[conf] texttexttext every time I want to say 
  27.     something.  Macros are nice, but it's still a frustration.

  29.     Compiling a client is _not_ an option for me.

  31.     Anyone have any thoughts?  I could have sworn there were at
  32.     least three others that offered it [and they couldn't be 
  33.     worse than bradenville] but that little piece of paper I wrote
  34.     them down on seems to have vanished.
