  12. At Larry Fite's request, I am relating an experience where I had hypnotized
  13. someone else.

  15. I had read plenty on the subject after seeing one of those hypnosis shows, and
  16. talked extensively with a few people who had done it numerous times.  My
  17. freshman year at UCLA, I gained permission from a close friend of mine to
  18. attempt it.  This was about the fifth time I attempted to bring someone under
  19. hypnosis, so I was pretty sure what to expect.  I was surprised.  She fell
  20. under an extremely deep state, and related past experiences as if she were
  21. there performing them.

  23. Specifially, we went back to her thirteenth birthday.  She immediately started
  24. speaking and behaving much more juvenilely than her 18 years.  It was quite
  25. amazing.  In any case, we went to two other times in her life, with her
  26. behavior changing accordingly.

  28. Finally, I asked her to open her eyes, but remain in the trance.  She then, at
  29. my request, played the clarinet for a few notes, but said that she didn't like
  30. playing it any more.  Shortly thereafter, she asked me to bring her out of the
  31. trance, so I asked her to lie down and close her eyes.  I then proceeded to do
  32. the usual counting until she woke up.

  34. She performed autoamnesia, so she had no recollection of what we had discussed.
  35. When I related the conversation to her, she corroborated all of her statements,
  36. but seemed to be quite uneasy about the whole thing.  As a result, she never
  37. did let me hypnotize her again.

  39. The irony is that I had never seen something like that before, and haven't
  40. since.
