- I had a comparably built 302 with a C4 in a '69 mustang.
- The Internals of an FMX aren't particularly stronger than a C4,
- but beacause of the steel housing, it is potentially stronger when built up.
- My Father built the mustang, so I don't know the brand of kit he
- used on the torque converter, but he described it as 'heavy duty' and
- he left the stall speed alone. Also the rear end gear ratio was
- less aggressive than yours. (low 3,xx). This setup lasted
- about 40K miles at which point shifts to second gear were
- really loooooonnnng.
-
- My current car is a '69 GT with a 351W at about the same HP rating
- and an FMX transmission. At 50K miles and a little drag racing,
- the FMX is dead. It also has a B&M kit in the torque converter.
-
- I think that no matter what you do with a C4/FMX it isn't
- going to last like it would with a stock motor.
-
- Another more economical option could be to try abd put an
- older 4 speed in.
