- Yes, it's true. Here is the relevant excerpt from a posting by Phil
- Earhardt (forgive me any misspellings--pae@blackcat.stortek.com in
- any case):

- (My editor won't get rid of the following--sigh).
- report ticket orders to as many people as possible in real time), so there may
-
- I guess I'm the closest alt.drumcorps reader to the stadium now
- (faceman@emunix.emu.edu reads his mail at Eastern Michigan Univ.,
- but I think he actually works in Detroit), so I am responding to this.
-
- I called the Ypsi Area Visitors and Convention Bureau and also the
- EMU Athletic Information office last week. Rynearson Stadium has
- about 30,000 seats, but I don't know how many are on concert side.
- My guess is 15,000-20,000. I don't know if the backside has the
- metal bleachers anymore.
-
- The Ann Arbor-Ypsi area is overbuilt with hotels. The latest
- Auto Club guide lists 2600 units in Ann Arbor and 243 units
- in Ypsi. I know of at least one acceptable hotel in Ann Arbor that
- isn't in the AAA Guide which has ca. 50 units, so that makes for
- 2900 hotels in the immediate area. The Detroit Metro Airport (and
- all the hotels that go along with it) are only 20 minutes east
- of Ypsi in Romulus and there are several good hotels (a Hyatt among
- them) in Dearborn, 10 minutes past the airport. Hotel rooms will
- not be a problem!
-
- As for things to do and see, Ann Arbor is a great place to live,
- but you may not want to visit here :-). The U of M has a decent
- Art Museum and a good Natural History Museum (I work there) but I
- have a hard time coming up with things for tourists to do here.
- If you come in a week earlier, you can visit the Ann Arbor Art
- Fair, which is worth seeing. There are lots of good restaurants
- in town. Ask me about what kind of food you want and I'll recommend
- a restaurant for you (except Mexican--there are 6 Mexican places in
- town and they all suck :-P !). Best bet is to go to Dearborn and
- visit Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum. Lots of historical
- buildings have been moved to Greenfield Village (Ford's first
- workshop, Noah Webster's house, George Washington Carver's house,
- and Edison's and the Wright Brother's workshops, among others).
- Henry Ford Museum boasts that they have every invention since the
- wheel and they damned near do! As for Ypsi itself, well the best
- sight in town is a huge phallic water tower. Nothing else to see.
