  30. I guess I'm the closest alt.drumcorps reader to the stadium now
  31. (faceman@emunix.emu.edu reads his mail at Eastern Michigan Univ.,
  32. but I think he actually works in Detroit), so I am responding to this.

  34. I called the Ypsi Area Visitors and Convention Bureau and also the
  35. EMU Athletic Information office last week.  Rynearson Stadium has
  36. about 30,000 seats, but I don't know how many are on concert side.
  37. My guess is 15,000-20,000.  I don't know if the backside has the
  38. metal bleachers anymore.

  40. The Ann Arbor-Ypsi area is overbuilt with hotels.  The latest
  41. Auto Club guide lists 2600 units in Ann Arbor and 243 units
  42. in Ypsi.  I know of at least one acceptable hotel in Ann Arbor that
  43. isn't in the AAA Guide which has ca. 50 units, so that makes for
  44. 2900 hotels in the immediate area.  The Detroit Metro Airport (and
  45. all the hotels that go along with it) are only 20 minutes east
  46. of Ypsi in Romulus and there are several good hotels (a Hyatt among
  47. them) in Dearborn, 10 minutes past the airport.  Hotel rooms will
  48. not be a problem!

  50. As for things to do and see, Ann Arbor is a great place to live,
  51. but you may not want to visit here :-).  The U of M has a decent
  52. Art Museum and a good Natural History Museum (I work there) but I
  53. have a hard time coming up with things for tourists to do here.
  54. If you come in a week earlier, you can visit the Ann Arbor Art 
  55. Fair, which is worth seeing.  There are lots of good restaurants
  56. in town.   Ask me about what kind of food you want and I'll recommend
  57. a restaurant for you (except Mexican--there are 6 Mexican places in
  58. town and they all suck :-P !).  Best bet is to go to Dearborn and
  59. visit Greenfield Village and Henry Ford Museum.  Lots of historical
  60. buildings have been moved to Greenfield Village (Ford's first
  61. workshop, Noah Webster's house, George Washington Carver's house,
  62. and Edison's and the Wright Brother's workshops, among others).
  63. Henry Ford Museum boasts that they have every invention since the
  64. wheel and they damned near do!  As for Ypsi itself, well the best
  65. sight in town is a huge phallic water tower.  Nothing else to see.
