- 1988 was a very interesting year. Scouts had taken several weeks off
- for a tour of Europe. When they returned, one week before DCM
- Championshiops, they clearly were off the pace of the other corps. I
- believe that Scouts placed *5th* (at best, 4th) at the DCM
- Championships. They did a huge amount of polishing and cleaning over
- the 2nd tour...it did not look at all possible for Scouts to win DCI
- that year.

- Wow, what a great message, Phil. I had never heard that perspective
- on Madison's 1988 season. That gives me newfound respect for their
- win. I'm somewhat biased, though: I share your belief that the
- Individuals and Ensembles competition is an important part of the drum
- corps activity, and can't really be underplayed. For many of the
- kids, I&E is the only chance they get at anything resembling real
- musical adjudication, and I feel that adjudication is important to
- musical growth.
-
- Anyway, off my soapbox here (sorry about that, folks). Thanks for the
- cool message about Madison, Phil.
