- Obviously, if you don't take the time to get a nice sound out of the head,
- then you are going to get a crap sound. If you take the Neanderthal approach
- to tuning drums, then there is no way to get a nice sound. "Cranking the
- f*ck" out of the falams will creat a crappy sound and an imploded drum.
-
- What constitutes "real" drum lines. I know that in todays world, there is
- a lot of time taken to get the best possible sound out of the drum you are
- using (plastic or, God forbid, falams). I remember in middle school we liked
- to cramk the piss out of the drums, but soon we realized that that was not
- how you get a good quality of sound. You may have stated the bare absolute
- fact, but the drumming community of today demands more than that. The
- thought that there are people out there still believing that you have to
- crank it until it screams really irritates me. You tune a snare drum like
- you tune a concert bass drum, marching bass drum, or timpani. You tighten
- the heads until the best sound quality is produced. Whether the best of
- plastic is better or worse than the best of the falam is a personal
- preference, not an undiscovered fact.
