- I had mentioned in a previous post that I was not the type of person who
- depended on luck or even liked the concept of it. My philosophy is that if I
- have a problem (personal, financial, etc) or some other situation I don't sit
- around worrying (to me, worrying only brings about more worry) about it or hope
- for some lucky break like quite a few people do. Instead, I go to work on the
- problem immediately and solve it.
-
- I almost regard the word "luck" as profanity. One of the highest insults I can
- give someone is "Good luck," meaning that I am seriously doubting their
- capabilities to deal with something, but I almost never use this insult as I
- very rarely get to an emotional state to use it. But even with this opinion of
- not depending on luck, I sure seem to have quite a bit of it because quite a
- few of the problems I encounter seem to solve themselves or render themselves
- meaningless before I have a chance to work on them.
-
- The most recent example of this came last night. The end of year marching band
- banquet was being last night at six o'clock, and I really wanted to go, but I
- also had a meeting with a project group for one of my classes at the same time,
- this meeting was supposed to go for a 3-4 hours because it was going to be due
- soon and we hadn't done anything on it yet.
-
- I arrived at the meeting site a little before six and I was thinking, "Well,
- the only way I'll get to go to the banquet is if no one else shows up." About
- 20 minutes passed and nobody showed up. I searched the building a few times to
- see if they met somewhere else, nothing. Finally, I called one of the other
- members and he said that he had forgotten about the meeting, he had also
- injured his ankle and was unable to come anyways. He was also supposed to tell
- the other members in the group about the meeting, but since he had forgotten,
- they didn't know. So I immediately changed my plans and went to the banquet.
-
- The problem had once again resolved itself. Luck? Hmmmmm.
-
- Sincerely,
- Lieutenant Wilkes
-
- P.S. BTW I thought that the person I called about the meeting was pretty
- inconsiderate. He should have called and told me that he was going to
- forget about the meeting so I could have left earlier.
