  11. RIPEM is a package for encrypted electronic mail using RSA public-key
  12. cryptography (mostly) in compliance with the PEM RFCs.  It is scheduled
  13. for release shortly.

  15. There already exists a newsgroup alt.security.pgp for PGP, another
  16. popular program for public-key email.  Thus, I believe the name
  17. alt.security.ripem is best, to remain consistent with this scheme.

  19. Pre-release discussion of RIPEM, scripts for interfacing with it, and
  20. the like have already occurred on existing cryptography and security
  21. newsgroups, and will doubtless increase substantially with its actual
  22. release.  A RIPEM newsgroup would keep such discussion centralized and
  23. allow other groups (e.g. sci.crypt) to remain on a more abstract level.

  25. I propose that alt.security.ripem be created as soon as RIPEM is
  26. released, which should be quite soon.
