- Hey, there, sysadmins! Would anyone like to create alt.org.pugwash?
- Here's a one-line description for your files and a proposed charter.
-
- alt.org.pugwash - Discussions of technological issues from a social stance
-
- Proposed Charter for alt.org.pugwash:
-
- Pugwash is an international organization founded by and dedicated to the
- ideals of Albert Einstein and Bertrand Russell in relation to the creation
- of rational technology policy. Student Pugwash USA has chapters in many
- High Schools and Universities, and there are similar organizations for
- educational chapters in other countries.
-
- At the 1992 Pugwash Chapter Organizing Workshop, it was decided, and thus
- voted, that a UseNet newsgroup should be created for discussion of Pugwash
- related topics. It was further decided that I should try to create this
- newsgroup.
-
- Pugwash believes that people will make proper decisions if they think about
- the social implications of their actions. To this end, Pugwash suggests
- open discussion about ethical concerns without excluding people for a supposed
- lack of knowledge on their part.
-
- About the alt.pugwash newsgroup:
-
- It is a forum for people to bring up and discuss a wide variety of
- Science, Society, and Technology issues. Some sample topics discussed
- at Pugwash meetings are: Biotechnology, Overpopulation, Environmental
- Pollution, and Biodiversity. Many other topics lend themselves to
- Pugwash discussion as well.
