- Danger Mouse sips his milk.
-
- "I received a snail letter from Stumpy today. Our New Zealand friend's
- account is no more. Here are some appropriately general extracts from
- his letter:
-
- "I've finally got my degree out of the way - all done bar the rubber stamp.
- People around here keep asking me what I plan to do next year - to which I
- reply 'Plan? What plan?' Get the picture?
-
- "... I miss the trains. I rode more trains in that one week [in Australia]
- than in the rest of my life put together. The novelty was just starting
- to wear off when I left. Now I miss them.
-
- "... Get Mike to give you one on me - he knows I'm good for it. I'll be
- back... one day. See you on the flip side, Stumpy."
-
- Mike smiles and raises a questioning eyebrow as DM finishes his glass of
- milk. "Make it an Earl Grey tea, Mike. Thanks."
-
- DM sighs as the steaming mug is handed over. "It all just reminds me of
- how fast things change. It only seems a short time ago when Stumpy's
- last post appeared here, or even when he was visting Sydney in RL. My
- PhD supervisor returns from sabbatical in three weeks. I'd planned to be
- up to a certain stage in my research by then, and I'm rushing furiously
- to make it. I'm doubtful that my progress by New Year's will be quite as
- far as I wanted.
-
- "Time flies... all the time. I received another snail letter a couple of
- weeks ago - from an old pen-pal in the San Francisco Bay area (yup,
- pre-e-mail and all!). She is getting married in May next year. Pretty cool.
- And even cooler, I am seriously considering taking up the invitation to
- attend. :-)
-
- "Sooo... all I need are a few Bay Area Callahanians to write and convince
- me that I'd be missing out on some pretty hoopy fun and RealSpacing if I
- declined. I'll only be able to spend a week or so there (PhD, ya know?),
- and the wedding date is the 22nd of May. Any takers?"
-
- DM pauses and reflects on what has been said in this post. "Wow, talk
- about topic/mood-switching and incoherent rambling...."
-
- - Danger Mouse.
