  23. Now I understand your position, but I think maybe you share a little
  24. of the misunderstanding.  Dimension & vector & concepts like that
  25. are mathematical abstractions.  "Right" & "left wing" are metaphors;
  26. the metaphor comes down to us from parliament or a public body
  27. like that, yes?  What you see, when you look at this deliberative
  28. body, is a large group of people, split with a block on your right, &
  29. a block on your left.  Not a linear array.  There's no reason to
  30. think there would be.  Clearly, tho, the term "political spectum",
  31. another metaphor, is guaranteed to bring up ideas of sequence
  32. along a single dimension -- at least to a scientist.

  34. I think you are certainly correct that divvying things up to r & l
  35. wings just doesn't work out in politics as we experience it nowadays,
  36. but it is nowhere as simple a concept as you've made it out to be.
