- How to get a 60Hz refresh rate in 32K colour 800 x 600 screen mode on the RISC PC
- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
- From Peter Reeves-Hall
- =====================
-
- To get a 60 Hz refresh rate instead of 56Hz in 32thousand colour 800 x 600
- mode do the following;
-
- make a backup copy of your monitors defintion file held in
- ADFS::HardDisc4.$.!Boot.Resources.Configure.Monitors.Acorn.
- and also make a backup of the file
- ADFS::HardDisc4.$.!Boot.Utils.BandLimit
-
- this is because not all VISC 20's may be able to cope with this data
- bandwidth if so you should then restore your initial file settings....
- (you should have backed up your harddisc by now anyway!)
-
- Now look in your monitor's mode definition file for the section defining a
- 56Hz 800 x 600 screen mode, remove the text 800 x 600 that appears after the
- ""mode_name:"" keyword so that it is blank, this stops the desktop mode selector
- from useing it...
-
- now load the 'BandLimit' file in to !edit and change the VIDCBandWidthLimit
- command to read
- VIDCBandwidthLimit 40000000 80000000 152000000
- and now save it out again.
-
- Do a reset of your computer and you should now have 60Hz update when you
- change to a 32K 800x600 mode... :-)
-
-
- DISCLAIMER
- You do all of this at your own risc, while I can't see how you can damage
- the computer this way it may overdrive the VIDC chip (resulting in a messy
- display) with possible side effects ?!?
