- MENU OPTIONS
-
- The main menu is opened by pressing Menu over the design window.
-
- MISC
-
- File
- Provides information about the current file.
-
- Page size
- This option allows you to set a paper size. Click on the Paper size menu
- button to open a list of available sizes. You can also set the orientation
- of the paper to Upright or Sideways. Click on Set to confirm any changes.
-
- Grid/Units
- You can choose the units for the grid and the number of divisions, the units
- for line width and whether the scale factors are expressed as decimal or
- percentage values. If Pointer locked to grid is on, an object will move in
- multiples of the grid units during dragging. You can also choose how the
- grid is displayed. Points displays points at each grid unit. Lines displays
- points at each grid unit and its divisions. None turns the grid off.
-
- Save
- A GridPro file can be saved in any of three different formats: Design,
- Vector or Draw.
-
- Design
- This is the best format in which to store GridPro files as (a) files take up
- very little space and (b) they can be loaded into GridPro by double-clicking
- on them. They cannot, however, be loaded into any other application.
-
- Vector
- If you want to use GridPro files in Vector, then this is the format to use.
- The files are very small and make use of Vector’s special objects. But do
- read the section GridPro and Vector below.
-
- Draw
- Only save files in this format when you wish to either print them or use
- them in other applications which can import Draw files. In this format,
- files can become very large.
-
- Sprites
- This option is available only when a file contains one or more Tiled Sprite
- objects. All sprites used in the file are saved as a spritefile.
-
- Shapes
- This option is available only when a file contains one or more Tessellation
- objects. All the shapes used in the Tessellation objects are saved as a
- library file. Library files can be loaded back into GridPro when
- Tessellation objects are being created. They can also be used by Vector.
-
- Defaults
- Any changes which you have made to GridPro’s options will be saved and
- become the default settings when GridPro is used next.
-
- Display
- Zoom
- This opens a box allowing you to choose the scale factor for the design
- window.
-
- Enlarge and Reduce
- Using these options gives a wider range of scale factors than the Zoom
- option.
-
- Full view
- This option scales the document so that it fits the window. It ensures that
- the complete document is visible.
-
- Constraint
- This affects the way in which objects are moved and scaled. With constraint
- on, all movements are restricted to 45° or 90°. Objects may be dragged only
- vertically, horizontally or diagonally. When objects are scaled by dragging
- an ear, the movements are constrained so that scaling is proportional or is
- restricted to horizontal or vertical scaling.
-
- Auto scroll
- When an object or ear is dragged to the edge of the window, the window
- scrolls automatically so that the operation can be accomplished without your
- having to scroll the window manually.
-
- Printer limits
- This option is very useful in helping you to ensure that your document
- matches the size of the printed page as defined by your printer driver. It
- functions only when a printer driver has been installed. The area which
- cannot be printed is shaded according to the colour set in the GridPro
- Preferences as explained below.
-
- Reduce detail
- When this option is on, all lines are displayed as thin lines. This has two
- benefits. Firstly, it reduces the time taken to re-draw objects on the
- screen and, secondly, it increases the clarity of displayed lines. (Note
- that this does not affect the actual width of the lines. They will be saved
- and printed normally.)
-
- Object
- Delete
- A selected object, or objects, will be deleted. Use with care!
-
- Front
- A selected object, or objects, will be brought to the front. It/they will be
- positioned in front of all other objects.
-
- Back
- A selected object, or objects, will be pushed to the back. It/they will be
- positioned behind all other objects.
-
-
- PREFERENCES
-
- The Preferences box is opened from the icon bar menu.
-
- Colours
- Click on a colour to cycle through the range of colours.
-
- Paper margin is the area outside the page defined by the printer driver i.e.
- it cannot be printed.
-
- Selection is the colour used for the eight dragging ears.
-
- Screen grid is the matrix of points which make up the grid.
-
- Animation is the colour of the temporary bounding box which is displayed
- when an object is dragged or scaled.
-
- Options
- Show key shortcuts on menu
- When this option is on, the keyboard shortcuts will appear in the menus.
- When it is off, the menus will be narrower (and less obtrusive).
-
- Update display while dragging
- When this option is on, the size and position values in the data window will
- be updated as an object is dragged or scaled.
-
- Return to Select after create
- When this option is on, an object is selected immediately it has been
- created. When it is off, you can create another object immediately without
- having to choose create mode again.
-
- Confirm when overwriting file
- When set, confirmation will be requested before overwriting an existing file
- of a different file type.
-
- Saving Preferences
-
- If you choose Save, the preferences will be brought into effect and become
- the defaults the next time GridPro is loaded. Set will bring the preferences
- into effect but will not save them. Note that Show key shortcuts on menu
- will not be brought into effect by choosing Set. You will have to Save,
- Quit, and reload GridPro.
