  1. Using Digital (.WAV) Audio with DOS 6.0's DoubleSpace*
  2.  
  3. The DoubleSpace utility included with DOS 6.0 can cause problems if you attempt to 
  4. play or record "high data rate" (i.e.: stereo/44.1kHz/16-bit) digital audio to or 
  5. from a compressed disk. In DOSDAT or WinDAT, the symptom will be a "Disk Could Not 
  6. Keep Up With Digital Audio" error message, or in some cases the program may even 
  7. crash.

  9. Therefore, if you anticipate that you will be playing or recording a lot of 
  10. stereo/44.1kHz/16-bit digital audio, you should set up a non-compressed drive 
  11. partition and configure both DOSDAT and WinDAT to use this drive as their Work and 
  12. Temp directories. In both programs this is done from the Setup window.

  15. to your DOS 6.0 Users Guide.

  17. *The same procedure should be followed if you are using Stacker, a third-party disk
  18. compression utility.

  21. About the Windows MCI CD Audio Driver
  22.  
  23. Some of the Windows applications in this package will allow you to play back CD 
  24. audio from your CD-ROM drive. These applications require the Windows MCI driver for 
  25. CD-ROM audio, MCICDA.DRV. Unless this driver is properly installed and configured, 
  26. you will not be able to play CD audio from within Windows.

  28. If you have trouble with any of the Voyetra applications playing CD audio in Windows,
  29. try playing  the same track using the Windows Media Player instead. If the Media 
  30. Player won't play it either (or if the CD Audio device is not even listed in the 
  31. Media Player's Device menu), then the MCI driver for CD audio is probably not 
  32. installed.

  34. To install the MCICDA driver:
  35.  
  36. 1) From the Windows Control Panel, run the Drivers applet.
  37.  
  38. 2) From the Drivers applet choose Add.
  39.  
  40. 3) From the list of available drivers, click on [MCI] CD Audio and then click on OK.

  42. 4) Follow the on-screen instructions. In most cases you'll be prompted to insert one or more of your original Windows installation disks.
