  5. This file contains information not available at the  printing  of the
  6. manual.  Please  read all the sections before you  proceed  with  the
  7. installation.

  25. 1. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
  26.  
  27.    The    installation   program,  INSTALL.EXE   will   modify   your
  28.    AUTOEXEC.BAT  and  CONFIG.SYS files.  Your  original files will be
  29.    renamed with the extension B~K.
  30.  
  31.    WINSETUP will NOT set up the drivers and applications properly  if
  32.    your BLASTER environment strings are incorrectly set.  Please make
  33.    sure  that  these  environment  strings  are set  properly  before
  34.    running WINSETUP.EXE.  You  may enter "SET"  at the  DOS prompt to
  35.    check  the  environment  settings.  Refer  to  your Sound  Blaster
  36.    manual  for more  details on  the  BLASTER and  SOUND  environment
  37.    strings.

  39.    Normally, WINSETUP.EXE needs to be run only once.  If the hardware 
  40.    settings of your sound  card needs to be  changed, use the  DRIVER
  41.    applet in CONTROL PANEL  to change the  settings of  your  Windows
  42.    drivers.  Refer to  your Windows  manual for  more details  on the
  43.    DRIVER applet.

  46. 2. HARDWARE CONFIGURATION
  47.  
  48.    Run SBCONFIG.EXE to configure your card if you change the  default
  49.    DMA  channels 1 and 5, or interrupt 5.  To  avoid  conflicts  with
  50.    Adaptec 1542 card change DMA 5 to 6 or 7.

  55. 3.  CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVERS INSTALLATION

  60.    If you have 3 or  more logical  or  physical  drives  installed in
  61.    your system, you  must  specify  the  LASTDRIVE  command  in  your
  62.    CONFIG.SYS by adding the following line.

  64.       LASTDRIVE=?
  65.  
  66.    Where:
  67.       ?         specifies the  last drive  letter  available  for use
  68.                 ranging from A to Z.
  69.

  77. 4. SOUND BLASTER 16 MIXER CONTROL
  78.  
  79.    SB16MIX.EXE

  82.    This mixer can only be accessed when you are in video mode 3 (text
  83.    mode - 80x25 lines in 16 colors) or 4 (graphic mode - 40x25  lines
  84.    in 4 colors).  If you are using any other  video  mode,  a  single
  85.    line  version of  the  mixer  will  appear.  No  mixer  control is
  86.    available  if  you  select a video mode  above 13h (Enhanced video
  87.    mode).

  89. 5. CREATIVE SOUNDO'LE
  90.  
  91.    Creative  Soundo'LE  uses  the hard  disk  as  the working  space.
  92.    Recording and playback are done directly to your hard disk.
  93.  
  94.    Creative Soundo'LE also supports compressed  wave files.  You  may
  95.    record  or  play  compressed  wave  files  using  Soundo'LE.   The
  96.    graphical  Signal  Indicator  will  not  be  updated when you  use
  97.    compressed files.

  100. 6. VOICE UTILITIES
  101.  
  102.    Below is a  list  of  the  limitations  and   capabilities  of the
  103.    following utilities :
  104.  
  105.      WAV2VOC .EXE   - Able to support ALAW, uLAW and ADPCM
  106.                       compressed files.
  107.  
  108.      VOC2WAV .EXE   - Does not support 16-bit compressed files.
  109.  
  110.      VOCN2O  .EXE   - Does not support 16-bit compressed files.

  113. 7. SOUND DRIVERS INSTALLATION UTILITY (INSTDRV.EXE)
  114.  
  115.    The program INSTDRV.EXE will not change the default  DMA  and  IRQ
  116.    settings  of  the  CTWMEM.DRV  and  CTWDSK.DRV  drivers.   Current
  117.    applications  using these two  drivers obtain the card's  settings
  118.    from the BLASTER environment string.

  121. 8. MAXIMUM RECORDING RATES FOR SOUND BLASTER 16
  122.  
  123.    The sampling rate used for recording is largely influenced by your
  124.    computer's main  processor.  The following maximum recording rates
  125.    are suggested when you use 16-bit digital audio under Windows:

  142.    For  optimal performance under Windows, configure your  audio card
  143.    for  16-bit  DMA  (Direct Memory Access).   Refer  to  your  Sound
  144.    Blaster 16  Getting Started Manual for more information on setting
  145.    up the audio card to use a 16-bit DMA channel.

  148. 9. ADVANCED SIGNAL PROCESSOR
  149.  
  150.    For users with  Advanced  Signal  Processor, the  Advanced  Signal
  151.    Processor files (*.CSP) MUST be  located in the  Sound  Blaster 16 
  152.    CSP  sub   directory  (example  C:\SB16\CSP)   when  you  use  any 
  153.    compression technology.

  156. 10. USING WINDOWS QSOUND CONTROL PANEL
  157.  
  158.    The QSound effect  cannot be  enabled or  disabled  during a  wave
  159.    playback.  The  enabling or disabling of  QSound effect will  only
  160.    affect the next wave playback.
  161.  
  162.    The QSound Control  window works  in low priority  mode.  When  an
  163.    application  like  Creative Mosaic  uses QSound, the control panel
  164.    becomes inactive.  When you quit the application that uses QSound,
  165.    the Control window will become active again.
  166.  
  167.    * Note : QSound application  program is only  available  on  Sound
  168.             Blaster 16 with Advanced Signal Processor.

  171. 11. MANUAL ERRATA

  173.     If  errors  are  not  found  in  your manuals, please ignore this
  174.     section.

  178.     Page 3-4 and 3-5 In "Windows Mixer Menus" section,

  180.     - "Save" command in the settings  menu  should be "Save on exit",
  181.       which allows you to save all changes made to the mixer.
