- Playing Microsoft Windows Sound System (MWSS) RMI Format Music Files
- ====================================================================
-
- Our Audio drivers support playback of MWSS RMI MIDI files. However;
- you are required to change the default setting from <FM Synth (Base)>
- to <FM Synth (Ext)> in the MIDI-Mapper configuration table prior to
- the playing of these MIDI files.
-
-
- Using Microsoft Windows Sound System (MWSS V2.0)
- ================================================
-
- If you are using MWSS and intend to activate the Audio Control icon,
- ensure that the recording mode of your current Windows Mixer is set
- to either Line or Mic, but not MIX (Mixer On). You can make the change
- by activating the Recording Panel in the Windows Mixer, and click on
- Line or Mic button.

- Updates in the WINDAT Software
- ==============================
-
- Windat has been updated to include three additional functions:
-
- "WAV -> VOC" (found under the Transforms menu)
- ----------------------------------------------
-
- The "WAV -> VOC" function allows you to convert your WAV-format audio
- files to the VOC-format.
-
- "Change Speed" (found also under the Transform menu)
- ----------------------------------------------------
-
- The "Change Speed" function allows you to change the sampling rate of
- your audio files.
-
- "File Info..." (found under the Windows menu)
- ---------------------------------------------
-
- The "File Info..." function displays the audio attributes of the
- sound file currently opened in Windat.

-
- Using Digital (.WAV) Audio with DOS 6.x's DoubleSpace*
- ======================================================
-
- The DoubleSpace utility included with DOS 6.x can cause problems
- if you attempt to play or record "high data rate" (i.e.: stereo/
- 44.1kHz/16-bit) digital audio to or from a compressed disk. In
- DOSDAT or WinDAT, the symptom will be a "Disk Could Not Keep Up
- With Digital Audio" error message, or in some cases the program
- may even crash.
-
- Therefore, if you anticipate that you will be playing or recording
- a lot of stereo/44.1kHz/16-bit digital audio, you should set up a
- non-compressed drive partition and configure both DOSDAT and WinDAT
- to use this drive as their Work and Temp directories. In both
- programs this is done from the Setup window.
-
- For information on setting up a non-compressed partition for your
- hard drive, refer to your DOS 6.x Users Guide.
-
- *The same procedure should be followed if you are using Stacker, a
- third-party disk compression utility.

- Notes About Using EMM386.EXE
- ============================
-
- When running applications with EMM386.EXE installed, the following
- error message may appear:
-
- "EMM386 DMA buffer is too small"
-
- You can overcome this problem in two ways:
-
- - remove the EMM386.EXE entry from the CONFIG.SYS file
-
- OR
-
- - add the following parameter to the EMM386.EXE entry in the
- CONFIG.SYS file:
-
- D=64
-
- where D specifies how many kilobytes of memory should be
- reserved for buffered Direct Memory Access (DMA).
-
- An example of this may be:
-
- C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE D=64
