Please note, that the applications you want to install SPEA drivers for have to be already completely installed (for Standard VGA (640 x 480, 16 colors) on your system prior to using the SPEA software. It is a good idea to do this before removing an existing graphics adapter as not every application permits the configuration of the video mode used from the DOS plane.
PCI cards
It is very important to have the correct configuration for the PCI expansion slot to be used for the SPEA SHOWTIME PLUS. The hardware settings are made using the system BIOS setup. We cannot provide detailed instructions as system BIOS setup programa vary considerably from one BIOS type to another.
Warning!
Make a note of the system BIOS setting BEFORE making changes. Inappropriate changes made to the system BIOS setup can cause major hardware conflicts with various parts of the computer.
You should note the following when installing the SPEA SHOWTIME PLUS in your computer:
You must install the SPEA SHOWTIME PLUS in the PCI Master Slot.
- The slot interrupt INT-A must be assigned to one of the available system interrupts (foe example: IRQ 10)
- Check in the motherboard manual if a jumper needs to be set. Jumpers are sometimes used to assign INT-A to the PCI slot being used by the SPEA SHOWTIME PLUS.
Some recent motherboard designs have a Plug & Play system BIOS. If you have such a PCI system, ist BIOS will do the interrupt configuration automatically.
If you still have problems with your PCI configuration you'll find additional information in Appencix C 'Troubleshooting' in this manual.
VL cards
There are no special hardware settings to be made before installing the SPEA SHOWTIME PLUS into a VL slot. During the software installation (which will be described in chapter 3 in this manual), you will be asked to select an IRQ for the SPEA SHOWTIME PLUS. We suggest you use IRQ 10 -if available.
