  46.         The V7-MIRAGE graphics card is a product that offers significantly
  47.         enhanced features compared to other standard VGA graphic and
  48.         accelerator boards.
  49.  
  50.         This particularly applies to
  51.         - higher resolutions    and
  52.         - higher refresh rates.
  53.  
  54.         Please be aware that you can only take full advantage of the
  55.         features provided by the V7-MIRAGE, if the other components of
  56.         your system, especially the graphics monitor that is being used,
  57.         also comply with the specifications of the V7-MIRAGE.
  58.  
  59.         (Example : The resolution 1280x1024 that is supported by the
  60.         V7-MIRAGE can obviously not be used with a monitor that is speci-
  61.         fied to only support resolutions up to 1024x768.)

  63.         The advantages of the "VESA Local Bus" can only be used with a
  64.         V7-MIRAGE (VL) board, if this card is installed in a PC system
  65.         with a VESA Local Bus interface.

  72.         For installing the SPEA V7 Windows driver 'BigWin':

  74.         After the end of the current installation procedure,
  75.         please insert disk "Drivers for Windows" and type:

  83.         Usually two major steps are necessary to install the driver(s)
  84.         for a specific non windows application.
  85.  
  86.     (1) First the driver modules must be copied from the V7-MIRAGE Super-
  87.         disk to the hard disk of your system.
  88.         This is done by the INSTALL program provided with the V7-MIRAGE
  89.         Superdisk.
  90.         Before you start INSTALL you should know in which drives and
  91.         directories the applications are installed that you want to install
  92.         drivers for.
  93.  
  94.         - change to the V7-MIRAGE Superdisk and call INSTALL,
  95.         - select the language you prefer,
  96.         - and follow the instructions given by INSTALL.
  97.  
  98.     (2) After the driver modules have been copied to the hard disk, the
  99.         applications need to be re-configured for the new drivers. The
  100.         User Manual provides detailed descriptions for each application
  101.         supported by the V7-MIRAGE.

  108.         As already mentioned above, the graphic monitor used with the
  109.         V7-MIRAGE must comply to the specifications of the V7-MIRAGE.
  110.         Only then can the full functionality of the V7-MIRAGE be used.
  111.  
  112.         The monitor settings will be specified with the program
  113.         MNTMIR.BAT. For more information please read through the corresponding
  114.         section in Appendix A, 'Utilities' in the V7-MIRAGE manual.
  115.         To permanently call this batch file you have to add an entry to your
  116.         AUTOEXEC.BAT file, e.g.: CALL C:\SPEA\GDC\MNTMIR 2 .

  119.         The program SPEAtune SPEA has developed and delivered for S3 chip
  120.         based graphics boards cannot be executed with this V7-MIRAGE due to
  121.         technical circumstances. It is however planned to release a
  122.         version for this board. Please inform yourself via SPEA's BBS, if
  123.         and when such a release is available.

  128.                                 *** IMPORTANT ***

  130.         Please only select parameters that your monitor is specified for.
  131.         Your monitor may be seriously damaged, if it is constantly driven
  132.         with parameters which are not within the range of its specification.
  133.         If you change your monitor you have to compare the specification
  134.         and, if necessary, to change the resolutions / refresh rates e.g.
  135.         using MNTMIR.BAT !

  138.         ║                    Known Limitations                        ║

  141.     (1) It is not possible to use two or more VGA boards in one PC at
  142.         the same time.
  143.         In case you want to use the V7-MIRAGE board in a PC that has a
  144.         VGA interface integrated on the motherboard, then this integrated
  145.         VGA interface must be disabled before the V7-MIRAGE may be used.
  146.  
  147.     (2) In some PCs of the Intel 386/25MHz series the V7-MIRAGE may only
  148.         be used as standard VGA card. Limitations on the Intel 386/25
  149.         motherboard do not allow to make use of the accelerator functions
  150.         of the V7-MIRAGE in such systems.
  151.  
  152.     (3) Some applications such as Windows 3.1, and others offer
  153.  
  154.                          "Video 7 ..." display interfaces
  155.  
  156.         in their configuration programs.
  157.  
  158.         These options should NOT be selected when using the V7-MIRAGE.
  159.  
  160.         Please follow the instructions given in the user's manual to
  161.         guarantee that the optimum configuration for the V7-MIRAGE is
  162.         being installed.

  169.         Seperate README files are supplied for most application drivers
  170.         available for the V7-MIRAGE. These READMEs contain last-minute
  171.         information not included in the printed documentation and infor-
  172.         mation related to known limitations.
  173.  
  174.         These README files are copied to the directory \SPEA\GDC when
  175.         the related driver has been selected for installation while
  176.         running the INSTALL program. The READMEs can be identified by
  177.         the file name extension .DOC .
  178.  
  179.         Use the command  SHOW *.DOC  from the \SPEA\GDC directory to
  180.         display the README file on your screen.

  192.         CGA, EGA, Hercules, MDA emulation modes are not supported.

  195.         Upgrade 1MB --> 2MB DRAM
  196.         In the manual the possibility to upgrade from 1MB to 2MB DRAM is
  197.         described. This upgrade is not possible any longer. A V7-MIRAGE with
  198.         2MB DRAM compared with a board with only 1MB DRAM was only able
  199.         to additionally display two more resolutions in unergonomic
  200.         interlaced modes. The DRAM Upgrade has no influence on the speed of
  201.         the graphics board.

  204.         Layout of the graphics board
  205.         The layout of the graphics board has changed in the meantime and is
  206.         not identical with the illustrations in the manual (Part 2 and
  207.         Appendix A) any longer.

  209.         Jumper
  210.         There are no jumpers on the V7-MIRAGE any longer.
  211.  
  212.         VESA modes
  213.         The V7-MIRAGE BIOS does not support the VESA interface.
  214.         If VESA support is required, the small memory resident program
  215.         V7MIRVBE.EXE should be executed. Video modes can be selected via the
  216.         VGA mode numbers. VESA numbers may only be used if the VESA emulator
  217.         has been installed.

  220.         V7HFREQ.COM:
  221.         Higher Refresh Rates also in all VGA standard modes ( Mode Nr. < 30H )
  222.         e.g. 640*480*16!

  224.                                ATTENTION!
  225.         If you permanently use your monitor with a refresh
  226.         rate that is too high for your monitor you may damage it!
  227.         If you are not sure about the monitor frequencies your
  228.         monitor supports, please inform yourself about the resolution
  229.         and refresh capabilities in your monitor manual.
  230.         Please note that you have to adjust the refresh rates again
  231.         if you change your monitor.
