  20. A) What's new?
  21. ==============
  22.    The installation of the OS/2 driver for SPEA V7 graphic boards has now
  23.    been simpified. In order to enable more comfortable use of the driver
  24.    under OS/2 we have included a new tool, V7SETOS2.
  25.    The installation is quite different to this previous description in the
  26.    manuals and README files.
  27.    In addition, the driver has been complemented with HiColor and - according
  28.    to the board and memory available - TrueColor capability.

  31. B) Properties of the Driver
  32. ===========================
  33.    This driver supports the following resolutions and color depth in the
  34.    OS/2 Workplace Shell:
  35.       640 * 480  * 256 colors
  36.       800 * 600  * 256 colors
  37.      1024 * 768  * 256 colors
  38.      1152 * 870  * 256 colors                            
  39.      1280 * 1024 * 256 colors 
  40.      1536 * 1152 * 256 colors
  41.       640 * 480  * 64k colors
  42.       800 * 600  * 64k colors  
  43.      1024 * 768  * 64k colors 
  44.      1280 * 1024 * 64k colors (*)    
  45.       640 * 480  * 16M colors (*)
  46.       800 * 600  * 16M colors (*)
  47.      1024 * 768  * 16M colors (*)

  49.   (*) Seamless Windows and AVI file playback are not supported.

  51.    The BigWin driver can be installed in the Windows Session in all available
  52.    resolutions and also with color depth higher than 256 colors.
  53.    Also if the BigWin is configured in another resolution than the OS/2
  54.    environment it is possible to switch between both surfaces without
  55.    any problems.

  57. C) Requirements for Installation
  58. ================================
  59.    OS/2 has to be installed and runs with standard VGA driver or and older
  60.    BigBlue driver with the V7-MERCURY PRO board in the OS/2 environment as
  61.    well.
  62.    Note: You need the V7-MERCURY PRO "Drivers for Windows" Disk for the
  63.    installation.

  66. D) Installation of the OS/2 Drivers
  67. ===================================
  68. 1. (Only when drivers are downloaded from mailbox)
  69.    Extract the files to an 1.44MB floppy a name this disk "V7-MERCURY PRO
  70.    BigBlue".
  71.    A disk label is NOT necessary any longer.
  72.  
  73. 2. Start OS/2.
  74.    Important: before beginning the installation shut down any running
  75.    OS/2 and Windows programs!
  76.    Open a fullscreen session or an OS/2 window. Put the disk labelled
  77.    "V7-MERCURY PRO BigBlue" in drive A: and enter:
  78.       A:\V7SETOS2
  79.    (Only when floppy disk installation, does not apply to CD ROM install.)

  81.    Follow the instructions on the screen and if unsure at any point,
  82.    call the online help.

  84.    After terminating the program and restarting OS/2 you have access to
  85.    the OS/2 desktop and seamless Windows with the BigBlue driver and
  86.    to Windows via the BigWin driver in the resolution and color depth
  87.    that you selected.

  90. E) Changing the resolution under OS/2 or Win-OS/2
  91. =================================================
  92. After you have installed BigBlue a new folder named "SPEA/V7" will be
  93. created on your desktop with the V7SETOS2 program icon. After starting
  94. this program you can change the resolution or color depth before restarting
  95. your system to initialize the changes.

  97. Note the following if you wish to use a different resolution under Win-OS/2
  98. as opposed to the OS/2 desktop.
  99. 1. Deactivate the checkbox 'Use settings in Win-OS/2 fullscreen session'.
  100. 2. Start Win-OS/2. Select the options 'File' and 'Run' in the Program
  101.    Manager. Then enter V7SETUP' without a path or drive. After starting
  102.    the program make the changes for your Win-OS/2 session in the same
  103.    way as under V7SETOS2.

  105.    Note: V7SETUP for Windows can't be started as a seamless window
  106.    application.

  108. F) Known Restrictions
  109. =====================
  110. Videoplayer:
  111.    If you change to a fullscreen session whilst running a video then text
  112.    will be displayed in black on blak. Switching from digital video to
  113.    fullscreen windows can cause the system to crash.
  114.  
  115. SPtune:
  116.    User modes (tuned modes) are currently not supported. They are not shown
  117.    in V7SETOS2 but are used and running if set under SPtune.
