  20. A) What's new?
  21. ==============
  22.    The installation of the OS/2 driver for SPEA V7 graphic boards has now
  23.    been simpified. In order to enable more comfortable use of the driver
  24.    under OS/2 we have included a new tool, V7SETOS2.
  25.    The installation is quite different to this previous description in the
  26.    manuals and README files.
  27.    In addition, the driver has been complemented with HiColor and - according
  28.    to the board and memory available - TrueColor capability.

  31. B) Properties of the Driver
  32. ===========================
  33.    This driver supports the following resolutions and color depth in the
  34.    OS/2 Workplace Shell:
  35.     640 * 480  * 256 Farben
  36.     800 * 600  * 256 Farben
  37.    1024 * 768  * 256 Farben
  38.    1280 * 1024 * 256 Farben
  39.     640 * 480  * 64k Farben
  40.     800 * 600  * 64k Farben  (*)
  41.    1024 * 768  * 64k Farben
  42.     640 * 480  * 16M Farben  (**) (not for MERCURY PCI)
  43.     800 * 600  * 16M Farben  (**) (not for MERCURY PCI und ISA/VL mit D-Step)

  45.   (*)  Seamless Windows makes problems with any boards
  46.   (**) Seamless Windows and AVI file playback are not supported.

  48.    The BigWin driver can be installed in the Windows Session in all available
  49.    resolutions and also with color depth higher than 256 colors.
  50.    Also if the BigWin is configured in another resolution than the OS/2
  51.    environment it is possible to switch between both surfaces without
  52.    any problems.

  54. C) Requirements for Installation
  55. ================================
  56.    OS/2 has to be installed and runs with standard VGA driver or and older
  57.    BigBlue driver with the V7-MERCURY board in the OS/2 environment as
  58.    well.
  59.    Note: You need the V7-MERCURY "Drivers for Windows" Disk for the
  60.    installation.

  63. D) Installation of the OS/2 Drivers
  64. ===================================
  65. 1. (Only when drivers are downloaded from mailbox)
  66.    Extract the files to an 1.44MB floppy a name this disk "V7-MERCURY
  67.    BigBlue".
  68.    A disk label is NOT necessary any longer.
  69.  
  70. 2. Start OS/2.
  71.    Important: before beginning the installation shut down any running
  72.    OS/2 and Windows programs!
  73.    Open a fullscreen session or an OS/2 window. Put the disk labelled
  74.    "V7-MERCURY BigBlue" in drive A: and enter:
  75.       A:\V7SETOS2
  76.    (Only when floppy disk installation, does not apply to CD ROM install.)

  78.    Follow the instructions on the screen and if unsure at any point,
  79.    call the online help.

  81.    Note known restrictions!

  83.    After terminating the program and restarting OS/2 you have access to
  84.    the OS/2 desktop and seamless Windows with the BigBlue driver and
  85.    to Windows via the BigWin driver in the resolution and color depth
  86.    that you selected.

  89. E) Changing the resolution under OS/2 or Win-OS/2
  90. =================================================
  91. After you have installed BigBlue a new folder named "SPEA/V7" will be
  92. created on your desktop with the V7SETOS2 program icon. After starting
  93. this program you can change the resolution or color depth before restarting
  94. your system to initialize the changes.

  96. Note the following if you wish to use a different resolution under Win-OS/2
  97. as opposed to the OS/2 desktop.
  98. 1. Deactivate the checkbox 'Use settings in Win-OS/2 fullscreen session'.
  99. 2. Start Win-OS/2. Select the options 'File' and 'Run' in the Program
  100.    Manager. Then enter V7SETUP' without a path or drive. After starting
  101.    the program make the changes for your Win-OS/2 session in the same
  102.    way as under V7SETOS2.

  104.    Note: V7SETUP for Windows can't be started as a seamless window
  105.    application.

  107. F) Known Restrictions
  108. =====================
  109. Synchronisation Problems:
  110.    When selecting via V7SETOS2 a higher resolution than 800*600 and there 
  111.    the lowest available refresh rate, synchronisation problems may occure 
  112.    when restarting. In this case make a task switch to a fullscreen session. 
  113.    This problem does not occure with higher refresh rates.

  115. Display of windows in true color:
  116.    In OS/2 and DOS windows display problems may occure when working in a 
  117.    true color mode.
  118.    
  119. SPtune:
  120.    User modes (tuned modes) are currently not supported. They are not shown
  121.    in V7SETOS2 but are used and running if set under SPtune.
