  28. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
  29. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to
  30. register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request registration
  31. while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  32. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the
  33. software to an updated program and a printed manual.

  35. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the
  36. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  37. below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like retail
  38. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  39. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  40. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
  41. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
  42. some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  43. copy their Shareware.

  45. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
  46. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or
  47. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  48. can try before you buy. And because the overhead is lower, prices are lower
  49. also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  50. product, you don't pay for it.

  105.                     Installating Bridge for Windows
  106.  
  107. To install Bridge for Windows, follow these steps:
  108.  
  109.   Before you can use Bridge for Windows you have to run the setup program 
  110.   from Windows so it will work properly on your computer. You cannot just 
  111.   copy the files from the Bridge for Windows disk to your hard disk. The 
  112.   files on the distribution disk are packed in a special way to save space. 
  113.   The setup program unpacks those files and builds them on your working disk.
  114.   
  115.   Bridge for Windows installation will pre-install the Visual Basic runtime
  116.   DLL on your system, if you do not already have a version.  Other runtime
  117.   files will be installed in the appropriate directory.  Windows version
  118.   stamping resources will be used to ascertain if a file should be copied
  119.   to your computer.

  121.   1. Make Windows' "Program Manager" the active window.
  122.  
  123.   2. From Windows' "Program Manager", select "File", then select "Run".  This
  124.      will open the "Run" dialog box.
  125.  
  126.   3. Place the copy of Bridge for Windows in your floppy drive.
  127.      Now, the dialog box needs for you to type in the command that will run
  128.      the Bridge for Windows installation program.
  129.  
  130.      * If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "A", type:
  131.               A:SETUP
  132.        Leave the "Run Minimized" box un-selected, and click the "OK" command
  133.        button.
  134.  
  135.      * If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "B", type:
  136.               B:SETUP
  137.        Leave the "Run Minimized" box un-selected, and click the "OK" command
  138.        button.
  139.  
  140.   4. Fill in the required information in the dialog box.
  141.  
  142.      * It will ask you for the "Source Drive and Directory" designation where
  143.        your Bridge for Windows floppy disk is located.  (This is the same 
  144.        floppy drive designation you typed in the previous step before the 
  145.        word "setup".)
  146.  
  147.      * It will ask you for the hard disk "Destination Drive and Directory"
  148.        designation on which you want it to install Bridge for Windows.  It 
  149.        will suggest a directory named "C:\BRIDGE".
  150.  
  151.        If you want the Bridge for Windows program files installed on a 
  152.        different drive or directory, just click the pointer to the right of 
  153.        the characters you want to change, backspace over the ones you want to
  154.        erase, then type in the new designation.
  155.  
  156.      * It will automatically build a Bridge for Windows icon and add it to
  157.        "Program Manager".  Accept the "Yes" (already selected by default) if
  158.        you do want it to do this.  Select "No" if you do not.
  159.  
  160.   5. Bridge for Windows Setup will unpack the necessary files and place them 
  161.   into the proper directories.  
  162.  
  163.   6. Bridge for Windows Setup will notify you when the installation is 
  164.   completed. 
  165.   
  166. Bridge for Windows is installed and ready to use.  Double click the pointer on
  167. the Bridge for Windows icon and try it out!

  223. Do not simply copy the files off your hard drive. Bridge for Windows must be
  224. installed using the SETUP program!  SETUP will only save DLL's from the 
  225. distribution disk if the files are not found on your computer or the files
  226. on your computer are out of date. The last three files may not 
  227. be supplied in all cases. These files are considered generally 
  228. available.

  235.                        Purchasing the Licensed Version

  237. You may use the shareware version of Bridge for Windows for a 90 day trial 
  238. period. If you would like to continue to use Bridge for Windows after the 
  239. 90 day trial period, you are required to purchase the licensed version of 
  240. Bridge for Windows.
