  15. PPD is an MSDOS program to allow users the ability to create World Wide Web
  16. pages without the need to understand HTML/HTML+ language conventions or the
  17. skills necessary for specialized HTML editors.  PPD accepts special script
  18. files which are then processed by PPD for the interactive creation of a WWW
  19. page.  The example PPD file (PHOME.PPD) included in this distribution allows
  20. a user to create a personal WWW page without any knowledge of HTML/HTML+ or
  21. tools other than his or her favorite MSDOS editor.

  27. PPD and all associated files should be installed in their own directory.
  28. Any fresh directory will do, however, "\PPD" is the most appropriate.

  31.                                Operation

  34. PPD is run from the MSDOS command line with the name of a PPD script file as
  35. an argument.  All PPD script files bear the extension .PPD and comprise the
  36. interactive operations experienced by the user.  PPD script files support
  37. their own language appropriate to creating WWW pages.  The details of the
  38. scripting language and how to create a PPD script file are available to
  39. registered users as discussed below.  An astute user, however, should be
  40. able to create his/her own script files by examining the sample PHOME.PPD
  41. provided with this distribution.

  43. To run the sample script use: PPD PHOME and simply follow the instructions.
  44. PPD will create a personal WWW page based upon the user's input. Alternately,
  45. run the batch file PERSONAL provided.  To view the sample HTML file before
  46. running PPD, use your favorite browser to view the page HOMEPAGE.HTM -- the
  47. provided sample includes several GIF files which will be automatically used
  48. when designing your own home page.

  52.                           The Power of PPD
  53.                           ----------------

  55. The power of PPD lies in its ability to interpret scripts for users. PPD
  56. scripts are simple ASCII files created with any text editor.  With appropriate
  57. scripts, a user can create and modify WWW pages at will for a variety of
  58. purposes.  There is no need for HTML/HTML+ knowledge if the script is
  59. constructed properly.

  61. The PPD script language is rich and evolving.  Registered users will be
  62. provided with the PPD script command language by e-mail if they register the
