- ThunderBYTE Anti-Virus for Windows 95
- =====================================
-
- - Installation notes
-
- To do a 'First-time installation' of TBAV for Windows 95
- you have to uninstall the previous version(s) of TBAV for Windows 95.
-
- You can uninstall TBAV for Windows 95 by starting the 'Control
- Panel'. In the 'Control Panel' double-click the 'Add/Remove
- programs' icon .
-
- Now select 'TBAV for Windows' from the list and click 'Add/Remove'.
-
- You can also do an 'Update installation'.
-
-
- - Working with TBAV for DOS and Windows 95
-
- TBAV for DOS utilities are not designed to work in Windows 95.
- This means you can not use the memory resident TBAV utilities
- (TbDriver, TbScanX etc.) in Windows 95. So, you must never start
- INSTALL.EXE from the TBAV for DOS diskette (the TBAV for DOS TSR's
- will be installed). If you want to have the TBAV for DOS on your
- hard-disk, create a new TBAV directory and copy all the files of
- the TBAV for DOS diskette in this directory. Now you can use TbScan,
- TbUtil etc. in a Windows 95 DOS-Box.
-
- - Making a Rescue Diskette in Windows 95
-
- You can create a TBAV Rescue Diskette in Windows 95. Creating such a
- disk ensures you, you can remove ANY bootsector virus from your PC.
-
- * Start a DOS-Box (or go to the DOS-Prompt)
- * Copy (NOT install!) TBAV for DOS in a TBAV directory.
- * Format a diskette with 'format a: /u /s'
- * Go to the TBAV (for DOS) directory and type: MakeResc.Bat A:
-
- Now a Rescue Diskette will be created of your Windows 95 machine.
- Make the diskette write-protected and keep it on a safe place. Some-
- times the Rescue Diskette is the only way to remove a virus from
- your PC.
-
-
- - Understanding the automatic update feature
-
- This release provides you with an automatic update feature. Using this
- option of TBAV for Windows 95, it is possible to automatically update
- this version to a more recent version.
-
- To configure the automatic update feature, you can either install TBAV
- for Windows 95 in the normal way and alter the setting via the 'Options'
- menu by clicking the 'Automatic Update feature' item, or you can
- edit the accompanying TbLoad.Ini file manually.
-
- The TbLoad.Ini file comprises three keywords:
-
- [TbLoad]
- UpdateDir=C:\TBAVW95\UPDATE
- TimeStamp=04-11-1996, 07:01:00
- UseTbLoad=1
-
- The first keyword, 'UpdateDir', specifies the (shared) directory that
- will contain the files of newer releases. In a network environment, we
- recommend you to dedicate a public server directory for TBAV updates.
- The second keyword labeled 'TimeStamp' is used by the automatic update
- feature to see wether or not files need to be updated. This timestamp
- refers to the last time TBAV for Windows 95 was updated automatically.
- The last keyword is used to enable or disable the Automatic update
- feature. When this line says 'UseTbLoad=1' automatic updating is enabled.
- You can switch the automatic update feature off by changing the line
- into 'UseTbLoad=0'.
