  6. This is the "FINAL" version of 'Web Leech 2' for Windows. 
  7. You may distribute this version of 'Web Leech 2' to 
  8. friends, associates, or to a computer bulletin board (BBS), but

  10. to distribute the product through any other means (i.e magazines)

  26. Purpose
  27. -------
  28. The purpose of this application was to enable the user to download
  29. files which are attached to web pages, but WITHOUT having to click 
  30. on each link/file individually to save them. Instead a list of available
  31. files is created, and all/selected files can be downloaded.

  33. IT IS NOT a program to store web sites on your local drive, use something like
  34. Web Whacker for that. This is just an easy way to download multiple files from 
  35. a HTML page on a web server.

  39. Platform Requirements
  40. ---------------------
  41. The application requires a PC running Windows NT4 or Windows 95/98. Currently
  42. the application is only available for the Intel platform.

  44. You will either need an internet dial-up account running TCP/IP or be connected
  45. through your LAN, again using TCP/IP

  49. Quick Guide
  50. -----------
  51. Since WebLeech2 differs greatly from the previous version, it is recommended that all
  52. users read these brief guildines to using the product.

  55. Connecting to a site
  56. =-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=--
  57. to connect to a site you can either enter the URL in the "Location" text box and click 
  58. on the "Connect" button. Alternativley if you are using either IE3/4 or Netscape Navigator 
  59. you can double click on the "Current netscape/ie URL" option under "Web leech Sites", this 
  60. will open that URL in webleech.

  62. If the site contains frames then you will notice a little "+" box appear next to the site 
  63. name in the "Web Leech Sites" section. Clicking on this will expand the frame-list and 
  64. you can select a particular frame, again by just double-clicking on it.

  67. Downloading files
  68. =-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-
  69. Downloading files (or copying, if from local drive) is done entirley by drag and drop. Once
  70. a file-list has been generated for a remote site, you can simply drag and drop the file(s) 
  71. that you need to a local path on the left-hand pane.

  74. Options
  75. =-=-=-=
  76. The options screen is much as it was on the previous version, however new users should be
  77. aware of the "Parser Accuracy" section. This specifies how accurate the application is at
  78. removing link names form the source HTML. Unless you have any problems this should always
  79. be set at 100%. Any lower setting may result in files being displayed which are not valid
  80. files (such as mailto: tags etc.). You have been warned!

  86. 1) Single-click on local drives now in tree-view, not double-click
  87. 2) No longer shifts the tree-view when dragging a file over it.
  88. 3) Sound will not play if option set to No :) Ooops!
  89. 4) You can double-click on stuff in sub-directories now to launch (locally)
  90. 5) You can drag multiple files OK, and are informed at the end if any files were not d/loaded (gives a list of missing files)
  91. 6) You can drag files to sub-dirs ok too.
  92. 7) You an (nearly 100%) resize the form, this needs some tyding up, but it works.
  93. 8) Auto-update will now download files to correct local path (not cause a Bad Filename error)

  99. NEW : Now imports your previous Web Leech favourite sites (not options).
  100. NEW : You can right-click on remote files and select Save.. instead of drag-and-drop
  101. NEW : Dirs/files sorted with dirs at top of list.

  148.       make sure that proxy disable changes immediate and not when program restart.
  149. FIX : Don't close Options window when APPLY clicked, wait until user clicks on Close
  150. FIX : Show transfer dialog when downloading updates.

  181.       copying the HTML response for the error as the destination file.
  182. NEW : Check if page has a REFRESH meta tag, if so then inform the user that the page is
  183.       setup to refresh and ask if they want to see the source (so that they may want to 
  184.       get the new URL).
  185. NEW : Users can now add a site to the favourite's list without actually having to connect
  186.       to the site (just right-click on a favourite or the browser sites and select the 
  187.       "Add new site to favourites.." option.

  194.       CONFIG IN VERSIONS 2.1/2.2 WILL NEED TO RESET THEIR BUTTON CONFIGURATION IN ORDER TO
  195.       GET THEIR TOOLBAR BACK TO NORMAL. To do this just double-click on the toolbar and 
  196.       select the RESET option.
  197. NEW : Sites which previously returned a 302 (site moved) error, are now detected and the new
  198.       url should be displayed in the remote list (you will get a message informing you that
  199.       the site has moved)
  200. NEW : Show the current location in the label above the file list-view
  201. NEW : Drop down location list will no store all sites visited in this session.

  203. FIX : Install no longer distributes WININET.DLL and WebLeech no longer uses this DLL, so
  204.       users with IE3 installed should be OK now.
  205. FIX : XFer progress not set at 100% before file XFerred or when connecting.
  206. FIX : Splitter bar height now correct.
  207. FIX : When connecting to a password protected site you have previously visited on your
  208.       first launch of WebLeech, you will not be prompted for a password.
  209. FIX : Previously, setting for overwrite/replace file was not being saved, this is now fixed.
  210. FIX : Stop displaying FTP files in the list (WebLeech does not XFer FTP files, use something
  211.       like CuteFTP for that).
  212. FIX : Files over 32MB no longer cause an overflow error.
  213. FIX : HOPEFULLY fixed problem small number of users were getting abour resizing a form when 
  214.       it is maximized!
  215. FIX : Slight adjustment to 50% accuracy setting, should find more files now.
  216. FIX : WebLeech shouldn't show as many "junk" entries anymore (i.e filenames would sometimes
  217.       still contain pieces of HTML code in there).
  218. FIX : File descriptions (if avilable should no longer contain "junk" characters at start)
  219. FIX : Deleting directories with empty sub-dirs now works OK
  220. FIX : Fixed misc problems when trying to access source of child frames immediatley after they
  221.       had been parsed.
