MacPaint is the original file format for what used to be Apple╒s MacPaint bit map graphics program. The file format is well known to the Macintosh world and nearly any graphics program that can work with bit mapped graphics can open MacPaint files.
~SB~Opening MacPaint Files:~SB~
Vision Lab can open a MacPaint file just as it is for conversion to GIF or other file formats, but perhaps the most interesting ability of Vision Lab is ╥undigitizing╙ MacPaint files. Do not think that a MacPaint picture has to be digitized for Vision Lab to ╥undigitize╙ it! Some of the best results come from opening free hand art!
~SB~Saving MacPaint Files:~SB~
Since MacPaint files are strictly bit mapped graphic images you will only be able to save the pixmap if the depth is one. The bitmap, of course, can always be saved as a MacPaint file. Also, MacPaint images are limited in size to 576 pixels across and 720 pixels down. If you try to save an image that is large than this it will be clipped to the maximum MacPaint size.

~SB~33% Reduction~SB~ opens MacPaint files by ╥undigitizing╙ them and reducing them to 33% of their original size. ~SB~50% Reduction~SB~ does the same thing but reduces the image to 50% of its original size. Selecting ~SB~No Reduction~SB~ loads MacPaint files at their full image size ~SU~without~SU~ ╥undigitizing╙ them.
~SB~Pros:~SB~
MacPaint files are easily opened by nearly all existing graphics programs that can handle bit mapped images.
~SB~Cons:~SB~
MacPaint files can only contain bit mapped graphics. Any color information is lost when saving as a MacPaint file. MacPaint files are limited in size to 576 pixels across and 720 pixels down.
