- F-22 Lightning II Demo

- NovaLogic is proud to offer this nearly full featured demonstration of our
- popular F-22 Lightning II flight simulation. Now you can fly this awesome
- aircraft and test your fighter-pilot skills against a collection of deadly
- adversaries like the Su-27 Flanker, EF-2000 Eurofighter, and MiG-29 Fulcrum.
- Because it is only a demo however, it lacks the multiplayer capability of the
- regular program. (The full version of F-22 Lightning II allows up to eight
- players to participate simultaneously in Head-to-Head contests or Cooperative
- play via a network connection. It also supports two player modem and serial
- cable connections as well.).

- I. Demo Installation and Set-Up Procedure
- In order to play the F-22 Lightning II Demo, you must first install the demo
- program on your hard drive. An installation program has been included with
- this demo. This installation program leads you directly into the Setup
- program. The Setup program in turn enables you to configure the demo for play
- with your particular hardware. Follow the simple steps below.

- A. Installing the F-22 Demo Program
- 1. Download (copy) the f22demo.exe file to your hard drive. Make a note of
- where you place it.

- 2. The f22demo.exe file is a self-extracting executable program. Once you have
- finished downloading it to your hard drive, you must extract the program
- files. To extract the program files, follow the steps outlined below.

- a) Windows(tm) 95 users
- Use Windows Explorer to go to folder (directory) on your hard drive where you
- have placed the f22demo(.exe) file. Double-click on the f22demo(.exe) program
- icon. (Depending upon your Windows(tm) settings, the f22demo icon may or may not
- have an .exe extension assigned to it.) Two new files will extract to the
- folder where f22demo is currently located. These are install.exe and
- install.bin.

- Once these files have been created, run the install.exe program. This will
- install the f22demo program on your computer. To run the install.exe program,
- double-click on the install(.exe) program icon. (Depending upon your Windows
- settings the install icon may or may not have an .exe extension assigned to
- it.) The game should now begin installing itself on your hard drive.

- b) DOS (or Windows(tm) 3.1) users
- If you are running Windows(tm) 3.1, exit from Windows(tm) completely and run the
- installation program from DOS. Change to the folder (directory) where you have
- downloaded the f22demo.exe file. At the DOS prompt, extract the programs files
- by typing: f22demo <press enter>.

- Two new files will extract to the folder where f22demo is currently located.
- These are install.exe and install.bin.

- Once these files have been created, run the install.exe program. This will
- install the f22demo program on your computer. To run the install.exe program,
- at the DOS prompt install the demo files by typing: install <press enter>.

- 3. The installation program displays a directory destination screen. The
- default destination for these files is C:\f22demo. Use this destination or
- enter a different destination directory (complete with path) of your own. The
- progress of the installation routine is displayed on your screen as a
- percentage. When the installation process is complete you are prompted to run
- the Setup program.

- B. F-22 Demo Setup
- 1. F22 Setup Main Menu Screen
- There are four system settings to configure: Video setup, Audio setup,
- Multiplayer setup, and Performance settings. Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys (or
- press the highlighted (colored) letter or number) to access menu selections.
- Press the ENTER key to make a selection. Press the ESC key to back up to a
- previous screen or press the Alt and X keys to exit. When you are finished
- with the Setup routine, be sure to select Exit and Save settings. If you
- select Exit only, you will exit Setup without saving your selections. You will
- have to go back and re-do all your settings.

- a) Video Setup: This menu selection is used to configure and test your video
- setup. This selection takes you immediately to the Video setup screen. Simply
- follow the on-screen instructions for setting-up and testing your VESA driver.
- Note that the preferred selection is VESA 2.0, however this newer driver has
- been found to be faulty on some video cards. Choose VESA 1.0 for greater
- compatibility as an override.

- b) Audio Setup: This menu selection is used to configure and test your audio
- setup. Your menu options are:

- Digital Sound Device: This menu screen contains a list of sound devices.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for selecting and testing your sound device.

- Music Device: This menu screen contains a list of music devices. Follow the
- on-screen instructions for selecting and testing your sound device.

- c) Multiplayer Settings: This option is not used in the demo version of this
- game. The full version of F-22 Lightning II features a comprehensive
- multiplayer environment.

- d) Performance Settings: This menu selection is used to configure your system
- in order to increase its performance and provide for faster and smoother play.
- Your menu options on this screen are:

- Use page flipping: Page flipping is a technique which can produce smoother
- animation. Some video devices do not properly support page flipping however.
- If your video display acts erratically when using page flipping, leave this
- item unchecked.

- Use VESA for low res: VESA drivers are found on most video devices today.
- These drivers form the link between your program and the video card. If you
- notice video corruption or slow video performance when playing the F-22demo in
- a low res mode, try un-checking Use VESA for low res to fix the problem.

- Slow CD ROM (2X speed): The demo does not require the services of your CD
- drive. It runs entirely off your hard drive.

- 2. Altering your initial Setup program settings
- Setup is a program that is copied to your f22demo folder (C:\f22demo) during
- installation. It is run for you as part of your initial installation.
- Thereafter, you are required to access the setup.exe file on your own if you
- wish to alter your settings. Follow the instructions appropriate for your
- operating system as outlined below:

- a) Windows(tm) 95 Setup initiation
- Press the Start button and select Programs. Click on the "NovaLogic folder/
- F22 Lightning II Demo/ Setup" menu options to access the Setup program. To
- alter your initial Setup selections, follow the F22 Setup Main Menu screen
- instructions.

- b) Windows(tm) 3.1/ DOS Set-Up procedure
- If you are running Windows(tm) 3.1, exit the program and run the Setup program
- from DOS. To run the Setup program from DOS, access the F22demo folder
- (C:\F22demo for example). At the C:\F22demo> prompt type: setup <press enter>.
- To alter your initial Setup selections, follow the F22 Setup Main Menu screen
- instructions.

- C. Playing the F-22 Demo
- Once you have successfully installed and setup the f22 demo program o
