- Ever wanted to know about the latest Star Trek or
- Babylon 5 episode? Or maybe you're dying for a shot
- of a Minbari Cruiser? Well, look no further. These
- exciting things and more can be found on GEnie's
- Science Fiction and Fantasy RoundTables -- SFRT,
- for short. One of the busiest areas in all of
- GEnie, the SFRT isn't just one RoundTable, but
- three. They're related, of course, but each enjoys
- its own sphere of influence in the world of science
- fiction and fantasy.
-
- Media Mavens
-
- Science Fiction RoundTable #2 (SFRT2, for short) on
- GEnie Page 471, is the online heart and soul of
- popular films and television shows that have their
- roots in science fiction, fantasy, and --
- particularly appropriate this month -- horror. You
- can delve into all the fascinating aspects of these
- popular artforms there, from casting to reruns.
-
- You're in the right place if you're interested in
- Star Trek or Babylon 5. Much of SFRT2 is devoted to
- these hugely popular shows, as well as other hot SF
- media events.
-
- Famous Posters
-
- A broad range of interests are evident in SFRT2,
- and you never know when an actor or someone else
- famous might reply to one of your messages on the
- Bulletin Board. Bruce Campbell is around, as has
- been Wil Wheaton, and the latest talk is that Armin
- Shimerman has been reading both the Star Trek: Deep
- Space Nine and Beauty & The Beast Topics. Rumor?
- Your guess is as good as mine, but I wouldn't be
- surprised to find it's true.
-
- I suspect that, at one time or another, the SFRT2
- Bulletin Board has addressed every TV show or movie
- that ever had anything to do with science fiction,
- fantasy, or horror. You'll find some of the most
- active, prolific and knowledgeable people online
- posting on the Board.
-
- In Category 17, Cable & Satellite, you'll find
- indepth discussions about Mystery Science Theater
- 3000 and Beauty & The Beast -- yes, even when a
- show is canceled there are STILL fans avid to talk
- about it. If you're into the mysterious,
- nerve-wracking and often thought-provoking X-Files
- Series, you'll enjoy Category 15, Network TV, right
- along with the likes of Lois & Clark and SeaQuest.
- Whovians should step over to the Dr. Who Category
- (number 13) and jump right into that discussion.
-
- There is a huge group of GEnie members who watched
- (and even participated in) the creation and
- production of Babylon 5, which took place in
- SFRT2's super active Topics in Categories 18-19.
- Get the latest scoop on the Captain & Crew of the
- new Star Trek Series, Voyager, in Category 30-31,
- and if you want the the hottest news on Star Trek:
- Generations, wander over to those Topics in
- Category 26.
-
- Science Fiction Conferences
-
- SFRT2's Real-Time Conference (RTC) area is hopping
- several nights of the week. Trek Night is Tuesday
- at 10:00 PM Eastern time, when we have discussions
- and sometimes get first-hand news about the new
- Star Trek Voyager series right from SFRT2's Head
- Sysop, Arne Starr, who recently had the privilege
- of visiting that set along with the set of Deep
- Space Nine. If you are a "Leaper," join us on
- Thursday Nights at 10:00 PM for the Quantum Leap
- chats, and keep right on reading when the Trek
- Novel chat happens at the same time in a different
- room.
-
- If you're up late on Thursday or Friday night, hit
- the Late Night ScuttleButt Lounge. It opens at 12
- Midnight Eastern time, and you'll enjoy everything
- from talk of Star Trek's demise to birthday
- celebrations for GEnie members.
-
- Friday, starting at 10:00 PM Eastern time, is the
- Babylon 5 discussion, immediately followed by the
- B5 Spoiler Conference. If you're lucky, B5 creator
- Joe Stracynzki will wander by; he does so fairly
- often. We close out the week with mystery, intrigue
- and chills with none other than that
- thought-provoking series, X-Files. Come find out
- what's going on at 9:00 PM Eastern time on
- Saturday.

- SFRT2's sysop staff is headed by Arne Starr, who
- knows his way around an SF set and is a fountain of
- industry knowledge. Then there's Jan Venters, who
- is right on top of SF TV & Media, and Dave
- Marshall, who can usually found discussing the
- Babylon 5 episodes with other B5 fans. Who does
- that leave? Me, Mike Henigan; I'm busy keeping up
- with our Star Trek Topics -- all 325 of them.
-
-
- SFRT1, on GEnie Page 470, covers most of the
- written word topics along with a multitude of
- Author and Professional subjects. The Science
- Fiction Writers of America and Horror Writers of
- America both have homes there, with private
- Categories for their members as well as aspiring
- writers.
-
- SFRT3, on Page 472, is the land of Fandom. If
- you're a Fan, then this is the place for you. SFRT2
- covers the essence of Fandom but if you want more,
- here's where you'll find it. Categories on
- costuming, conventions, writing and editing are
- only a few of the areas that appeal to a multitude
- of fans.
