  1. When August hits the calendar, everybody knows that
  2. summer vacation is winding down, and it's time to
  3. start thinking about going back to school. The good
  4. news is that the A2 and A2Pro RoundTables provide
  5. many educational resources to help teachers,
  6. students, and parents alike get back in the groove.

  8. For educators, we provide shareware and public
  9. domain programs sure to enhance your computer's
  10. usefulness in the classroom. We have grade books,
  11. word processors, keyboarding exercises, clip art
  12. and other kinds of graphics, and hypercard stacks
  13. on many subjects. Examples of files you should
  14. consider downloading include:

  16.  Gradebook.2, in  Files 13128, 13129, and 13131, is
  17.  a stand-alone gradebook  program.

  19.  Grade Book Reporter, File 11137, an Appleworks
  20.  grade book template.
  21.   
  22.  Computer Keyboarding 5, Files 22358, 22359, and
  23.  22360, a program by Charlie Hartley that teaches
  24.  computer keyboarding. A2's own Doug Pendleton and
  25.  Pat Kern highly recommend it.

  27.  Hyperstates, File 10099, a hypercard stack
  28.  provides geographical information on U.S. States.
  29.   
  30.  Identify the Presidents, File 20437, describes a
  31.  president and asks for his identity.

  33.  Astronomer GS V2.3.2, Files 19439, 19347, 19317,
  34.  19316, 19315, 19300, 19299, 19297, and 19296, is a
  35.  very nice IIgs Astronomy program.

  38.  math regrouping program.

  44. If you're anticipating returning to school later

  85. other concerned parties are invited to discuss ways
  86. to squeeze the most benefits from using Apple II
  87. computers in the classroom. Many educators frequent

  90. Is your Apple II acting strangely (or maybe not
  91. acting at all) after its idle summer? A2 is the
  92. place to see about getting it revitalized. We have
  93. some of the best hardware support available
  94. anywhere. Doug Pendleton and Harold Hislop, A2's

  96. day, fielding hardware questions ranging from
  97. adjusting the speed of a disk drive to how to chase
  98. away SCSI gremlins, and even tips on building a

  103. If you're interested in learning to how to write
  104. programs, perhaps to create your own educational
  105. materials, we invite you to attend A2 University in
  106. the A2 Pro RoundTable where programming classes are
  107. held periodically. The A2Pro Library contains
  108. lessons and transcripts of all preceding classes
  109. should the one you're looking for be
  110. out-of-session. Check out this resource for help in
  111. learning to program.

  113. Real-Time Hardware Trouble-Shooting

  115. Each Wednesday from 8:00 PM through 1:00 AM Eastern
  116. time, you'll find a Hardware Conference taking
  117. place in Room 1, hosted by A2's hardware experts.
  118. Yes, real-time hardware support is a reality, and
  119. for only the cost of connecting to GEnie! No
  120. question is too simple or complex for these folks,
  121. and answers are provided at a level you can
  122. understand, be that in layman's terms (reducing
  123. technical jargon to a level that casual users can
  124. understand is our specialty), or undiluted tech
  125. talk. Harold and Doug have over 40 years experience
  126. in electronics between them, so don't be shy.

  129. The International Computer Owners Network's (ICON)
  130. summer conference, popularly known as Kansas Fest,
  131. took place July 21 through 24 in Kansas City,
  132. Missouri. It was largely an Apple II conference,
  133. although all major brands of computer were
  134. represented. The many seminars presented were of
  135. great help to those educators in attendance. If
  136. you're a teacher who wants to know more about using
  137. the Apple II in your classroom, this is an
  138. excellent resource. Maybe we'll see you there next
  139. year!
