- "I can't believe it! I updated Sim City 2000 and
- now I can't get the cheat code to work! AAAAAAH!
- Any answers?"
-
- This anguished cry from Macintosh Games Topic
- Leader Bart Farkas appeared in Games Category 5 on
- the Macintosh Bulletin Board when he discovered
- that the cheat code, an invaluable aid to building
- successful "Sim-egolopisi," had been changed when
- Sim City 2000 was updated.
-
- The horizon looked dark for faithful followers of
- Sim City 2000. (Can players who use cheats be
- described as faithful? Well, it's not for me to
- quibble about details.) As Help Desk Manager Tom
- McDaniel explained, "The cheat code was changed by
- the updater (it's supposed to do that). I guess
- that's one of the tradeoffs. You can either use it
- buggy WITH the cheat word, or un-buggy (at least
- partly) without the cheat word." In other words, he
- didn't know the new cheat word either.
-
- Gloom deepened when Bart reported, "I talked with
- Peter from Maxis today. He says there is a new
- cheat for the updated version, but the programming
- team is keeping it a secret. Even the president of
- the company doesn't know what it is!"
-
- To the Rescue
-
- Just as all seemed hopeless, deliverance
- materialized in the form of Macintosh RoundTable
- member C. Rawlins, who advised, "For those of you
- stuck with SimCity 2000 v1.1 who need the cheat,
- here it is: "Open the map window and make it the
- front most window and type --" But wait...
-
- I'm not going to give you the answer HERE! I'm
- trying to encourage you to read the Macintosh
- Bulletin Board! So, if you need the cheat code for
- the latest version of Sim City 2000, head over to
- Page 605, Menu Option 1, set your Category to 5
- (type SET 5), and read Topic 38, Message 86 (type
- READ 38 86). Caveat: That message number may have
- changed slightly by the time this article appears;
- just think of finding it as part of the game.
-
- What I WILL tell you here is that "Macintosh
- RoundTable" is the infallible, unchanging code
- wording for maximum Macintosh gaming enjoyment.
- Whether you're looking for advice on the best
- joystick to buy, tips on how to escape the dungeon
- you've been trapped in for a week in your latest
- adventure game, or thumbnail reviews by fellow game
- fanatics, you'll find all that and more in Category
- 5.
-
- Marcos' Favorites
-
- Of course, when it comes to exchanging information
- with fellow Macintosh gamers, live talk is even
- more fun and doesn't require the delayed
- gratification of waiting for a response. Every
- Wednesday night at 10:30 PM Eastern time in Room 3,
- you'll find a lively bunch of gamers gathered in
- the Macintosh Real-Time Conference area. I attended
- a recent conference and chatted with Macintosh
- RoundTable member Marcos Huerta, who recommended
- several shareware games from the Macintosh Software
- Library.
-
- Marcos' favorite games include File 30323 RESCUE!
- 1.6.SEA, the latest version of the real-time,
- multi-window Star Trek Next Generation universe
- action game; 30138 SPACE JUNKIE.SEA, a color arcade
- game reminiscent of the classic arcade game
- Galaxian written in compact code (only a 64K
- download); and 31730 GALACTIC EMPIRE.SEA, a game in
- which you must unite the 20 inhabited planets of
- the galaxy before civilization decays.
-
- Of course, the Macintosh Software Library has
- resources for all kinds of entertainment, not just
- games that run on your computer. For example, File
- 31827 MF 3.0.6.SEA provides MacFinish II, an
- electronic photo finish system for athletic,
- bicycle, rowing, dog-race or other sports
- competitions using a COLOR or B/W linear
- CCD-camera, with both starting and arrival
- detection. Images, times and results are processed
- by the Macintosh, and you can generate color or
- black-and-white print outs of results and images.
-
- I know you've heard it: GEnie is the most fun you
- can have with your computer on, and nowhere is that
- truer than in the Macintosh RoundTable. As for me,
- I always did have a fondness for Galaxian, so I'm
- off to download Space Junkie. See you on-line!
