  1. I remember when the largest stigma attached to the
  2. perception of the Atari Computer system was its
  3. tremendous success in the video game arena. For
  4. years, when I'd mention I used an Atari computer
  5. for word processing, to whip up a spreadsheet,
  6. create a database, or do desktop publishing, I'd
  7. often be greeted with blank looks and inevitable
  8. comments like, "I thought Atari was a game machine
  9. company." It is -- but it's also the producer of
  10. some exceptional, easy to use computers that
  11. coincidently allow us to play games.

  15. In the Atari RoundTable on GEnie Page 475, we
  16. discuss new titles as well as the classics. Many of
  17. these games are common to all platforms. A hint or
  18. tip discussed in Bulletin Board Category 9 in the
  19. topic about Elite II from Frontier, for example, is
  20. equally applicable to the Atari or IBM. It is not
  21. uncommon to have people in that area with both
  22. computers discussing their latest adventures.

  46. The Atari computer is much more than a game machine
  47. but it certainly has its share of games, ranging
  48. from educational to role-playing. Naturally Atari
  49. remains a factor in the game market as well, with
  50. Lynx hand-held video games and the 64-bit Jaguar!
  51. As the official online resource of Atari
  52. Corporation, the Atari RoundTable has Categories
  53. discussing both of these excellent machines.

  56. Bulletin Board Category 36. Dozens of helpful files
  57. are available for downloading from the Atari
  58. Software Library. For example, file 32301
  59. LYNXINFO.LZH, uploaded by B.CANTIN, contains a
  60. collection of text files that includes reviews,
  61. cheats, hints, record high scores, comlynxers, Rob
  62. Jung's best/worst of the last three years, and
  63. more! This is a must-download for Lynx owners!

  65. What can I say about the Atari Jaguar, Atari's new
  66. 64-bit RISC Game Console? It must be seen to be
  67. believed! If you haven't had a chance to get
  68. acquainted with the Jaguar, drop by Category 26 and
  69. read all about it. If you have questions, ask the
  70. people with the answers! Again, dozens of files are
  71. available in the Library that can be downloaded and
  72. read by anyone with an interest in gaming on the
  73. Jaguar. For a good read, I recommend Atari Explorer
  74. Online. File #32177 AEO_0304, for example, contains

  79. One of the greatest aspects of GEnie is interacting
  80. with other people. I enjoy the messages -- the
  81. vibrant back and forth discussions so vital to a
  82. good Bulletin Board -- but GEnie's multi-player
  83. games can be superbly entertaining as well. One of
  84. my favorites is RSCARDS. The graphical front end
  85. program for the Atari ST is in file 31901
  86. RSCARDS.TOS in the Atari Library. After downloading
  87. it, go to GEnie Page 875 and play real-time
  88. Blackjack, Backgammon, Checkers, Poker, Reversi,
  89. Chess, and Bridge with other players. It's great
  90. fun!

  95. see, to this day Atari remains a major player in
  96. this genre. With release of the Atari Jaguar, a new
  97. generation of Atari equipment has been unleashed on
