- If you use a computer (and I'd like to know how
- you're reading this if you don't!), then you're
- bound to be interested in GEnieLamp, the Computing
- on GEnie Newsletter. Six versions of GEnieLamp are
- published every month, each catering to a specific
- computing platform. Typing the keyword GENIELAMP at
- any GEnie page prompt (or M515), is your first step
- toward getting your hands on the latest issue --
- your virtual hands, that is, since GEnieLamp is
- purely an electronic magazine.
-
- The Lamp to Read By
-
- From the GEnieLamp menu, you can download any or
- all of the six current editions of the magazine,
- with a separate issue for each of the following
- areas of interest: IBM-compatible, Atari ST,
- Macintosh, Windows, Apple II, and Apple II
- Programmers/Developers. (The *StarShip* Amiga
- RoundTable produces its own fine monthly
- publication, ViewPort, in several formats; type
- AMIGA at any GEnie page prompt for details.) All
- GEnieLamp publications are available in ASCII text
- format, readable by any personal computer. Of
- course, if you're one of the many people addicted
- to GEnie's Multimedia LiveWire Magazine, you're
- probably not crazy about text magazines, but you
- just might be in luck!
-
- Three editions of GEnieLamp are enhanced with
- colorful images. IBM-compatible GEnieLamp is
- available in HyperRead format, Atari ST has a
- version in TX2 format, and the newest addition to
- the GEnieLamp family, GEnieLamp Windows, is
- available in a 100% pure Windows Help file!
-
- Even if you read only the ASCII text version,
- you'll find making your way through GEnieLamp's
- articles is painless, thanks to its helpful text
- navigation aids. These aids are the same as those
- found in the ASCII version of LiveWire: bracketed
- keywords are imbedded in the text so that any text
- editor or word processor can take you quickly to
- either the article of your choice, the index [IDX],
- or the beginning and end of each article [EOA].
-
- There's even an automated script available so you
- can have Aladdin rub the Lamp. (Well, download it,
- anyway -- rubbing is at your own risk!) To get this
- script, simply turn on your capture buffer and type
- M515;1 at any GEnie page prompt.
-
- Inside the Lamp
-
- The heart and soul of the GEnieLamp magazines is
- Hey Mister Postman. This section primarily features
- reprinted messages of interest from various Topics
- in the corresponding computing RoundTable Bulletin
- Board -- a valuable service to those of us who
- can't keep up with all the Topics on GEnie which
- interest us. Other subjects in this section include
- Bulletin Board Hot Spots, What's New, Message
- Spotlight (highlight of a single, important
- message), Tips & Hints, and Through the Grapevine.
-
- But messages are only the beginning. Each issue of
- GEnieLamp contains a variety of articles. There are
- listings and descriptions of new Library files,
- reviews of freely distributable software, essays on
- computer-related topics, and even interviews with
- experts and other bigwigs. And in the arena of pure
- fun, make sure you don't miss the superb ASCII art
- by Susie Oviatt, CowTOONS by Mike White, Search_Me
- puzzles by Scott Garrigus, and other humorous
- columns in every issue.
-
- Read, Don't Rub!
-
- You'll find a wealth of valuable and entertaining
- information in each issue of GEnieLamp. It's
- published on the first of every month on GEnie Page
- 515. Back issues are available for downloading from
- the DigiPub RoundTable Library on Page 1395. You
- can also find GEnieLamp on the main menus on the
- following computing RoundTables.
