  1. Every community has a library. The great things about the Virtual Community
  2. Library on GEnie are the huge volume of information stored in it, and the
  3. smart tools available to help you find it. Whether you need to find
  4. information for work, a term paper at school, a hobby, or for investment
  5. purposes, GEnie Town has the library for you. GEnie's Reference Center is
  6. just like a reference section.

  8. ARTISTic Information Storehouse

  10. GEnie's Reference Center helps you quickly find information that's
  11. important to you. Simply enter your topic, whether it is a subject you are
  12. interested in, a person you want to look for, or information on a company
  13. or product. Reference Center covers all major subject areas, including
  14. science, history, medicine, education, art, literature, business,
  15. computers, technology, and more.

  17. Like all of the ARTIST(R) databases, Reference Center has a computerized
  18. online librarian called a Knowbot. The Knowbot reads every article in the
  19. database for you and comes back with a response which in effect says,
  20. "Here's everything I could find about your topic. Tell me if it's what
  21. you're looking for."

  23. The Best References

  25. The Knowbot displays a list of the subject areas where it found a match
  26. with your topic with the number of occurrences it found in each. When you
  27. ask the Knowbot for more information, it will display article headings in
  28. sets of up to ten, with the most recent first. After your selection, the
  29. Knowbot will retrieve the fulltext articles or abstracts, whichever are
  30. available in electronic format. You complete your search in a matter of
  31. seconds instead of spending frustrating hours at the library.

  33. The Reference Center is a GEnie$Premium service, so be sure to check rates
  34. before proceeding. However, the Knowbot gives you a running tally of your
  35. total charges (not including your regular connect-time charges) so you
  36. don't get a surprise.

  77. year. I chose subject, then just entered the word KANGAROOS.

  79. While the Knowbot looks, it tells you a bit about what it's doing. It tells
  80. you, "I'm looking for the information..." Every minute or so, it flashes
  81. "I'm still looking..." so you know it didn't forget you. When it completes
  82. your search, your screen comes up looking like this:
