  1. Ever wondered what would be the best investment you

  3. among the BEST investments is the time you spend on
  4. GEnie tracking down financial information.

  18. latest in tax law and information.

  123. indication of the search and retrieval charges
  124. associated with each database option.

  126. Specific Searches

  128. I looked at a couple of databases in particular:
  129. Tax Notes Today, which contains summaries and full
  130. text of all important legislative, regulatory,
  131. judicial, and policy documents regarding federal
  132. taxation (updated daily); and Accounting & Tax
  133. Publications, which contains summaries from key
  134. industry journals (updated weekly).
  135.   
  136. Accounting & Tax Publications gave me the option of
  137. searching by subject, searching by company,
  138. focusing by year and/or focusing by exact
  139. publication date. I asked the Knowbot to search for
  140. the subject COMPUTER just in 1993 and 1994. It
  141. found 1,428 articles dealing with the subject!
  142. Because it only displayed the first ten citations,
  143. though, it cost very little to discover this. I
  144. could have added other search terms to narrow the
  145. search for greater manageability, but I decided to
  146. move on.
  147.   
  148. Next I looked at Tax Notes Today, which gave me the
  149. option of searching by subject, focusing by year
  150. and/or exact publication date. This time I asked
  151. the Knowbot to find information dealing with the
  152. subject WRITERS in 1993 and 1994. It found 15
  153. articles this time (I'm not sure what that says
  154. about writers vs. computers).

  165. Since Tax Notes Today also contains the full text
  166. of many articles, I could have chosen to get this
  167. article online without ever having to leave my
  168. office to go to the library. After all, time is
  169. money!

  176.   Bond Buyer, that comes from the Bond Buyer Full
  177.   Text database which corresponds to the daily Bond
  178.   Buyer and the weekly Credit Markets newspapers
  179.   since 1981.

  181.   Insider Trading Monitor, a database containing
  182.   transaction details of all insider trading
  183.   filings (ownership changes) received by the U.S.
  184.   Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) since
  185.   January 1984.

  187.   M&A Filings, a database containing detailed
  188.   abstracts of every original and amended merger
  189.   and acquisition document released by the U.S.
  190.   Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) since
  191.   1985.

  193.   Investext comprises more than 200,000 full text
  194.   investment reports from 120 major investment bank
  195.   and research firms. New reports are added each
  196.   week to give you the latest information from
