  1. It happens every year. Sometime after the last of
  2. the wrapping paper has been thrown away, Uncle Sam
  3. favors us with a thick pamphlet filled with words
  4. that seem to translate into, "Give me all your
  5. money!" Or, if not all, whatever is left. There's
  6. not much the *StarShip* can do about that, except
  7. to make it easier for you to figure out exactly how
  8. much that is, or perhaps help you get organized.
  9. Along those lines, among many fine public domain
  10. and shareware offerings in the *StarShip* Library,
  11. are the following:

  13. ACESDEMO.LHA (File #21730) -- This checkbook
  14. program by Kent Smotherman is billed as a "complete
  15. and full-featured personal and small business
  16. financial management and tracking system." It uses
  17. a point-and-click interface to track deposits and
  18. payments in multiple accounts, and can generate
  19. reports based on the category or memo fields. ACES
  20. is demoware; fully functional, it will stop working
  21. after 50 transactions. The author is available on
  22. GEnie as K.SMOTHERMAN.

  24. ECONKNOW.LHA (File #22150) -- EconKnow, a shareware
  25. program from George Kell (G.KELL), is a
  26. multifunction financial program with investment and
  27. loan calculators. Need to know how long it will
  28. take to pay off that Visa? No problem. EconKnow
  29. will prompt you for the amount and number of
  30. payments, annual interest rate, and will give you
  31. the bad (or good) news right quick. You can also
  32. calculate the size of the payments necessary to pay
  33. off a loan within a given amount of time, track the
  34. future value of investme nts and annuities, and
  35. calculate the "equivalent uniform annual cost" of
  36. items.

  38. STICK103.LHA (File #22053) isn't an earth-shaking
  39. program, but it might be just the thing you need
  40. for all those facts and figures scrawled on little
  41. pieces of paper strewn about your desktop. StickIt
  42. is an electronic variant of the Post-It note pad.
  43. It lets you create notes, all instantly accessible
  44. from Workbench. If you toss StickIt into your
  45. WBSTARTUP drawer, it will be there -- as will your
  46. notes -- every time you boot.

  48. SCHEDULER101A.LHA (File #22015) -- Looking for a
  49. phone database/dialer and calendar/scheduler
  50. program? Then take a look at Scheduler by Ben Owen.
  51. It consists of a phone and address book,
  52. appointments book, and personal organizer. You'll
  53. need Workbench 2 or later for it. The
  54. point-and-click interface eases the task of
  55. organizing names and numbers, adds numerous bells
  56. and whistles -- like the ability to track incoming
  57. calls by Caller ID -- and helps you organize
  58. numbers and appointments by group.

  60. LABELPRINT201.LHA (File #22041) -- You'll probably
  61. be suffering from writer's cramp after wading your
  62. way through form 1040. If so, LabelPrint (LP) will
  63. print labels for you with just a few clicks of the
  64. mouse. This shareware program from the *StarShip*'s
  65. own Chris Papademetrious (CHRIS.P), lets you create
  66. a database of addresses, and then print selected
  67. items. Addresses can be sorted by any field. As
  68. many as 10 fields can be defined, and any field can
  69. be made unprintable.

  71. If you use a commercial financial management
  72. program, check the *StarShip* Bulletin Board for
  73. late-breaking developments including the 1993
  74. forms. Category 4 is home to a number of relevant
  75. topics including Home Management Pro (Topic 11),
  76. financial management software (Topic 16), and
  77. PHA$AR (Topic 24). Of course, since you own an
  78. Amiga, the world of Macintosh and MS-DOS software
  79. is also available if you're running an emulator.

  88. If you find all this too taxing, stop by the
  89. *StarShip* Library and pick up BUTTONMATCH.LHA
  90. (File #22030). This match-the-colors game by Syl
  91. Lutnes, is a pleasant diversion that will take your
  92. mind off your troubles. It requires Eagle Tree's
  93. Helm or HELMPRESENTER.LHA (File #21957). And
  94. remember, you can stop by at any time. The IRS may
  95. be closed, but we're open all night!
