- Hi, Welcome to JSW-PC alpha V0.7b
-
- The reason the .exe is so big is that DJGPP is running out of virtual
- memory and I can't seem to fix it... oh dear.
-
- JSW-PC's Home page is www.CDworld.co.uk/jsw
-
- Contents:
-
- 1. Control.
- 2. The idea of the game.
- 3. Some info about the game and the people behind it.
- 4. What to do if you like the game.
- 5. Achnolagements and thanks
- 6. Whats next then?
- -----------------------------------------------------
-
- 1. Control.
-
- The Joystick may be used 'Fire' Starts the game, the rest you know.
-
- If you would rather use the keys for that 'Retro' Feel they are:
-
- Top Row - left & right
-
- 'Space' & all of bottom row - Jump
-
- 'F4' Loads JSW-PC Rom (extra deluxe levels)
-
- 'H' to 'Enter' turns Music On/Off.
-
- 'F1' Switches between The new graphics and the old (original) graphics.
-
- 'F2' Cycles through the desktop themes.
- The themes change willy, the toilet, the banner & some sounds.
-
- The Themes: Disco Stu - A Tribute to Disco Stu from the Simpsons.
- Punk - Willy goes in for a 80's punk look.
- The FonZ - Willy proves hes still got 'it'. (new sound)
-
- 2 others 'Andy's Manic Miner'* and 'JSW-The Deadly Mission'* arn't
- done yet.
-
- * A parody, not to be taken seriously.
-
- 'F3' Cycles through the Speeds of the game.
-
- 'Alt' or 'Right Arrow Key'
- brings down all the other options which let you change
- resolution, music, themes and Speed.
- Use the arrow keys to move left and right through the menus,
- and up and down to change them. Note that they change straight
- away, and they they multi-task along with the game.
-
- 'X' on the title screen lets you load the other JSW game that this
- version of JSW-PC currently supports which is 'Willys new hat'.
-
- 'C' lets you enter 'Madness' mode in which all the floors sink as
- you walk on them. Try it, see how many objects you can get!
-
- 'Esc' Quits your current game and drops you back to the title screen.
-
- 'F10' Quits the game back to Windows/DOS/Lunix(?).
-
- ---------------------------------------------------
-
- 2. Idea of the game.
-
- Collect all the objects from around the house, then go back to Maria
- your house keeper with 74 of them.
- (thats The woman in 'The master bedroom')
- You have 7 lives to complete your task with, there are over 60 rooms to
- find and explore.
-
- ---------------------------------------------------
-
- 3. Some info about the game and the people behind it.
-
- This game is a conversion of a ZX Spectrum game made in 1984 by the
- now god like Matthew Smith who basically wrote the book on Platform
- games.
- The ZX Spectrum was a British Computer popular in the 1980's,
- Check out www.void.demon.nl/spectrum.html for more info on what was
- one of the best ever home computers.
-
- The graphics are Re-Colored in real time during the game using a simple
- and very memory & time saving routine.
-
- This game has been made by the hard work of:
-
- Programming - Craig Rothwell (crothwell@hotmail.com)
- Graphics - Helen Foote (Helen_@hotmail.com) (hlf01@students.stir.ac.uk)
- Music & Sound - Matt Simmonds (4mat, yes the 4mat from the Amiga Scene)
-
- The other midis (Crystal, Smart & Crypt) are just fillers until
- Matt has done some more mods. He was not responsable for those.
-
- Thanks for playing it, we hope you all feel like its the early 1980's
- again.
-
- The Main Code is C++.
- It took 5 months on and off to Program, and was Written in Notepad,
- then when that ran out of page memory I used MS-Write. It was compiled
- Via a BAT file with DJGPP the 32-Bit Freeware Compiler.
-
- So I hope it will compile under Lunix and Win95 With no problems.
-
- I used the Allegro lib for the Graphics storage, music and display.
- I wrote my own clipping and buffering routines for the gfx , coloring
- and file formats. I also did the pixel perfect collision detection.
-
- I will release the code for this game at www.aditfree.com/jsw soon.
- Be warned in advance though, its not structured at all.
-
- The game uses the original JetSet Willy tape (ROM) which is called
- jetset.tap. It reads the room data and graphics (if you turn the
- original graphics on with F1) from it.
-
- Helen used Paint Shop Pro 4.1 for the graphics (Dpaint won't run on
- this graphics card).
-
- I'm (Craig) a teenage student, but I might not be anymore by the time
- you read this. I am totally avalable for any programming work, or just
- about anything computer related. I will work for food*.
-
- *and I may also want some kind of payment... at some point.
-
- Helen graduates soon (June 98) in Biology, any job offers would be
- great. Shes good at anything computer related too.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------
- 4. What to do if you like the game
-
- If you like the game all I ask is you consider buying one of my
- Emulator CD's which are only 5 pound each.
-
- There are Speccy, C64 and CPC Cd's each have MASSIVE archives of games
- ready to run.
-
- My CD page is at www.aditfree.com/mmcd
- My Emulator page is at www.aditfree.com/emu
-
- If you can't be bothered to go there and just want a CD pop 5 pounds
- (8 pound outside UK) (cheque, postal order or cash) into a letter
- and send it to me at:
-
- 73E East Stirling St.
- Alva,
- Clackmannanshire,
- FK12 5HP,
- United Kingdom (if your outside the UK!)
-
- I'll post the CD's straight to you.
- Please try to include 2 stamps or 50p extra for the postage as this will
- speed up the sending. Cheques made out to Craig Rothwell or Helen Foote.
- (Helen is quicker)
-
- Buy buying a CD you are helping the development of more cool and free
- conversions of classic games.
-
- ------------------------------------------------------
- 5. Achnolagements and thanks
-
- The author of the Amiga version of 'Head Over Heels' which was what
- caused this game to be made, See I was actually going to do 'Head over
- Heels' as I love it. But it would have probably been a bit hard I
- thought, so I thought 'I know I will do a easy game first like... oh
- whats simple? Jet Set Willy!' 4 months later, I realise it was probably
- harder to write, well not so much hard as frustrating, you see I had
- to make sure that all the jump movements etc were perfect all the rooms
- worked ok etc etc. Also helen had to draw graphics for 65 Rooms!.
-
- Shawn Hargreaves for the brilliant time saving 'Allegro' lib for DJGPP.
-
- DJ Delorie for the Fantrabulious 32-Bit DJGPP Freeware Compiler!
-
- Andy Noble for his brilliant Manic Miner Conversion.
-
- Matt for the great music. If anyone is interested the next version will
- have .Mod/.xm/.s3m support.
-
- ----------------------------------------------------
- 6. Whats next then?
-
- Probably a conversion of 3D Death Chase.
- Although this time it will be more frames & levels etc, rather than
- being exactly the same.
- It will have speech, brilliant music and sound.
-
- Well thats the end of the txt file!
-
- Anyway Hope you have fun,
-
- Craig.
-
- PS Please send Me/Helen/Matt an email to say what bits you like and
- don't like etc. etc.
-
- There is a cheat. I'm not telling you it yet though.
- However another Indication like maybe a tricky riddle might reveal it.
