  19. Bare Bones Software announces new version of Premier Text Editor
  20.  
  21. Natick, MA -- Bare Bones Software, Inc. today announced a January 4
  22. release date for version 3.1 of “BBEdit”, their popular and critically
  23. acclaimed text editor. This new version incorporates several
  24. significant enhancements to its feature set and capabilities, including
  25. “soft” text wrapping, interaction with development environments not
  26. previously supported, electronic documentation, and an all-new
  27. packaging and delivery system.

  32. BBEdit 3.1 features new “soft” text wrapping. Previous versions of
  33. BBEdit required users to insert carriage returns in order to break
  34. lines, and to manually re-format the text while editing. BBEdit 3.1 now
  35. offers the option to wrap lines without inserting carriage returns, and
  36. will automatically re-flow lines as necessary when the user inserts or
  37. deletes text. According to Herb Kroemer, Professor of Electrical
  38. Engineering at the University of California at Santa Barbara, “The new
  39. soft text wrapping turns BBEdit into a truly excellent tool for general
  40. text composition and manipulation, even for the non-programmer.”

  43. All for One, and One for All

  45. As of version 3.1, BBEdit supports integration with THINK C and
  46. Symantec C++ (from Symantec Corp.), and CodeWarrior (from Metrowerks,
  47. Inc.). BBEdit provides a unified user interface for interacting with
  48. all supported environments; this interface enables the user to
  49. comfortably and easily switch between working environments. The ability
  50. to integrate with Metrowerks CodeWarrior is made possible by services
  51. introduced in the new “CW5” release of CodeWarrior. “Metrowerks is
  52. pleased to announce new AppleEvent support in CodeWarrior. This
  53. achieves much in making BBEdit users able to use their favorite editing
  54. environment with their favorite programming environment,” said Greg
  55. Galanos, president and CEO of Metrowerks (Austin, TX).

  57. In addition to support for CodeWarrior and current versions of THINK
  58. C/Symantec C++, BBEdit 3.1 also supports the upcoming version 8.0 of
  59. Symantec C++ for Power Macintosh.

  64. The new version of BBEdit is the first product from Bare Bones Software
  65. to ship on CD-ROM. According to Rich Siegel, president and CEO, “The
  66. CD-ROM format gives us the ability to deliver the software to our
  67. customers in an extremely cost-effective manner, and the large amount
  68. of space on each CD makes it possible to include all sorts of goodies
  69. in addition to the essentials.” In addition to the BBEdit software, the
  70. BBEdit CD-ROM includes full documentation for BBEdit in
  71. machine-readable format (a printed and bound manual is available at a
  72. nominal extra cost), demos of products from Bare Bones Software and
  73. other developers, promotional information and special offers from
  74. various third-party developers, and a collection of BBEdit extensions
  75. contributed by BBEdit users from all over the world. “The electronic
  76. manual is great,” said Tom Emerson, software engineer in the
  77. Development Tools Group of Symantec Corp. “It’s much more convenient
  78. than flipping through a book to find what I’m looking for.”

  81. BBEdit 3.1 will ship on January 4, coincident with the opening day of
  82. the 1995 MacWorld Exposition, in San Francisco, CA. The new version
  83. will bear a suggested retail price of US$119. Customers who purchase
  84. BBEdit 3.0 (the current version) after December 1, 1994 will be
  85. eligible to receive a free upgrade to version 3.1. All other owners of
  86. BBEdit 3.0 will be able to upgrade to the new version for US$39. An
  87. upgrade path is also available for users of older versions of BBEdit
  88. (including freeware versions), and for selected competing and
  89. complementary products; contact Bare Bones Software for more
