- THE OPTIONS MENU
-
- Here you can change three options.
-
- First is the sound volume which can be changed between 0 (off) and 10 (max
- volume).
-
- Next is the displaying of distance values. If changed to not show distance
- values you will get no help with choosing the correct power value when
- shooting. This makes things a lot harder.
-
- Finally you can alter whether or not you get the option to choose the
- landscape on which you fight each battle.
-
- The current option settings are saved when you exit the game.
-
-
- PLAYING A GAME
-
- Games consist of a number of rounds in which all players fight to the death.
- Each player must try and destroy all the vehicles of the other players,
- while avoiding losing their own. At the start of each round you have to
- choose a landscape on which to have your battle (unless you turn this off in
- the OPTIONS menu). Choose OK to select the current landscape or select NEXT
- to generate another. Then the battle begins. The battle for each round is
- split into TURNS in which players alternately move individual units until all
- teams have moved all their units. The current unit to move will be shown
- centre-screen with a triangle marker underneath. You can move the unit a
- limited distance using the cursor keys or mouse. A bar at the bottom of the
- screen shows you how much movement you have left for the current unit (this
- resets after each turn). When you have finished moving a unit, press the
- ENTER key. You are now in shoot mode and can aim and fire the vehicle's gun.
- Turn the gun and angle it up & down using cursor keys or mouse. To fire, hold
- down the SPACEBAR or left mouse button and a white column will move quickly
- up the power bar which is now visible on the right of the screen. Let go of
- the SPACEBAR (or mouse button) when you think the power is right. The longer
- you hold down the SPACEBAR, the further you will shoot. A red line on the
- power bar indicates the last power value that you used for the current
- vehicle. As well as destroying enemy vehicles, you can also destroy trees and
- rocks with a well aimed shot. The shooting phase can be skipped by pressing
- ENTER. After all but one of the teams have been destroyed the current round
- will finish and the current standings will be displayed.
-
-
- THE SCREEN DISPLAY
-
- During the game the main part of the screen shows you a view of the
- battlefield, while the status bar along the bottom displays information
- about the battle and the currently moving unit.
-
- The Wind indicator is at the bottom-left of the screen. The Arrow shows the
- current direction of the wind & the small bar above it shows the strength of
- the wind (the further the blue bar stretchs to the right, the stronger the
- wind).
-
- The centre-left box at the bottom shows the name of the current player
- who is moving a unit and gives information about the current vehicle being
- moved.
-
- The centre-right box is a simple bar graph of the relative strengths of the
- teams. As units get damaged and teams lose vehicles, the bar for each team
- will get shorter & shorter.
-
- The far-right box shows gun elevation when you are aiming a unit's gun.
-
- A compass is at the top of the status bar showing the current
- direction that you are looking in.
-
- UNITS - All the vehicles in the game have numbers underneath them showing how
- much more damage they can take before they are destroyed. When this number
- reachs zero they will explode. When a player is aiming a unit's gun there
- will also be a distance value (marked 'D') below all enemy vehicles. This
- value directly relates to the power value you will need to hit that vehicle
- if your gun is pointed up at 45 degrees. However the distance value does not
- take into account differences in elevation between vehicles. When shooting at
- a target you must take into account both the wind and the height difference
- between your unit & the target.
