Ninon Vallin was renowned as one of the most versatile and stylish of French sopranos with a warmer, rounder voice than many. She was born in Montalieu-Vercieu in 1886, studied at the Lyons Conservatory with Mme. Mauvarnay, and later with Heglon in Paris. She was chosen by composer Claude Debussy to create the off stage voice of Erigone in Le Martyre de Saint Sebastien. He also personally accompanied her in recital.
She sang much of the lyric soprano repertoire throughout the world and was an excellent partner to Georges Thill in his recording of MassenetΓÇÖs Werther. Ninon Vallin died in 1961 in Lyons.
