France's finest tenor between the wars, Georges Thill was born in Paris in 1897. He studied with Gresse at the Paris Conservatory and later with de Lucia in Naples, and his work with them on the voice launched him on a secure vocal career.
He had a voice of great range, warmth and elegance so that his rôles ranged from Gounod's Romeo and Rossini's Arnold in William Tell , Calaf in Puccini’s Turandot and Saint-Saëns’ Samson in Samson et Dalila. He recorded Massenet’s Werther and appeared in many films including Louise with Grace Moore.
