Titta was an outstanding Italian dramatic baritone. Born in Pisa in 1877, he was largely self-taught , but studied briefly with well-known singing teachers of the time, Persichini, Sparapani and Casini. He had the most imposing baritone voice of his generation. Dark in quality, it had phenomenal range and power together with great purity and warmth. He developed an aggressive dramatic style of delivery which was far removed from the elegant suavity of the earlier 19th century baritones. This brought him great success worldwide. He died in Florence in 1953.
