In music, a sliver of cane (or a pair of slivers bound together) in certain instruments that vibrates as air is blown past, causing the air column inside the body of the instrument to resonate. As in clarinets, oboes, bassoons, and some organ pipes (here the reed is often replaced with a metal equivalent). See also Resonance and Organ Pipes.
