The Spanish soprano, Lucrezia Bori, made her début at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1912. She subsequently lost her voice and was forced to retire. Back in Spain, when riding in the mountains, she was thrown off a mule. On recovering consciousness, she found that her voice had come back and immediately resumed her career.
