During a performance of Romeo and Juliet in Chicago, a lunatic climbed over the footlights and made a dash for Dame Nellie Melba. For a moment no one moved. Then a fellow-singer valiantly charged forward, flourishing his prop sword. It must have been an effective performance because the lunatic turned and fled.
