1. The simultaneous sounding of two or more notes in a form which is, in itself, musically significant; music which depends upon a moving structure of chords. More than one note can be played or sung simultaneously in counterpoint, but the musical interest then lies in the melodic line to which each note belongs.
2. A combination of simultaneous notes (a chord) which sound well together.
