FINNISSY, MICHAEL Composer and pianist (b. London, England 1946)
Teaching is an important aspect of Finnissy's work; he currently works at both the University of Sussex and the Royal Academy of Music, in London.
He created the Music Department at the London School of Contemporary Dance, and has become a leading figure in the worlds of music theatre, dance and opera.
His works for the stage are widely performed and broadcast in Britain, Holland, France and the U.S.
As a pianist he is particularly associated with new British work; many leading composers, including Elizabeth Lutyens, Oliver Knussen, Judith Weir and Nigel Osborne, have written pieces for him.
