In acoustics, the property of a note or other sound between the time of its being stopped, and eventual silence. Decay time is partly caused by continued reverberation of the sound within its physical space (e.g. a concert hall). In addition, all musical instruments, including the voice, take some time to stop reverberating after action has been taken to stop, or dampen, a sound.
