A cover is a singer who learns a r├┤le and attends rehearsals in order to be able to substitute for a soloist should he or she be unable to perform for some reason on the night of a show. Covering can be an excellent way for young contract singers to learn repertoire, and to get the odd opportunity to make their mark in performance.
