In music (and similarly in other art forms) a style inspired by Renaissance perceptions of the arts in ancient Roman and Greek cultures. Characterised by disciplines of form and structure, and by avoidance of emotionalism and individualism. It has also come to mean a style or work that is old, as opposed to modern, and, hence, a style or work that is perceived as heavy or difficult. The term is often used as the opposite of Romanticism - see The Romantic Movement.
